How to Enchant Equipment and Abilities in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Enchanting equipment in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a unique way to significantly enhance the characteristics of your items, increasing their overall damage and adding additional abilities. In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to enchant each piece of equipment to achieve the desired effects, as well as explain how rarity and equipment leveling work.
To unlock the ability to enchant, you will need to spend some time and effort. This will not only improve your combat effectiveness but also significantly increase your chances of survival in the harsh trials that await in the vast world of Thedas.
You will also be able to enchant some equipment items for your allies, which will help strengthen your team in difficult moments. However, keep in mind that the effectiveness of enchanting for your companions will be lower than for your hero. Therefore, before distributing resources, it is important to focus on your own equipment to maximize your chances of victory in upcoming battles.
Enchanting Process
You unlock the ability to enchant weapons during the quest Completing the Veilguard after talking to Solas in the Fade. It is important to note that you can enchant not only your weapon but also certain pieces of equipment for the Hand and his companions. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to enhance your abilities, giving you additional advantages in battles.
Enchantments can only be applied to one piece of equipment at a time. For example, if you have enchanted the Hand's helmet, you cannot use it on other armor. This rule also applies to enchanting allies' equipment. However, do not worry — you can remove enchantments from an already enchanted item to redirect them to another piece of equipment. This allows you to adapt your strategy depending on the situation and the needs of your team.
To enchant equipment items, select the Enchant option inside the workshop. This will open a menu where you can choose the item you need.
Here, as with upgrading equipment, you can choose the item or ability you need to enchant. After selecting the desired item, a small menu will appear in the center of the screen displaying the available enchantments and their effects. This will help you easily navigate and choose the best options for enhancing your equipment.
This menu will also describe the effects of the selected enchantment. For example, it adds +25% to weapon damage.
When you decide on the enchantments you want to apply to an item or ability, simply select them, and they will be applied instantly. Scrolling through the list of available enchantments for the selected item, you will be able to see which enchantments can be used at higher levels. This is especially useful for planning your build, as it allows you to evaluate in advance which upgrades will be available in the future and how they might affect your battle strategy.
Enchanting the Hand's abilities is available in the same Workshop menu. The process is similar to enchanting equipment items. However, it is important to remember that abilities can only be enchanted for the Hand — other characters cannot take advantage of this feature.
After unlocking the enchanting feature, only a few enchantments will be available to you. As you level up in the workshop, you will be able to find more options. Applying enchantments is completely free, and you will not need to spend any materials, making this process accessible and convenient. The types of enchantments range from health and attribute bonuses to increased elemental damage. There are also enchantments specific to certain classes, such as resource generation and ability enhancements. This variety allows you to tailor your items to the individual needs of your build and battle strategy, making your team even more powerful.
Is it worth leveling up the workshop?
We highly recommend leveling up the workshop as early and as often as possible. If you have extra gold, do not miss the opportunity to buy souvenirs from NPC vendors you meet. Each item you purchase will be of a level corresponding to the current rank of the workshop. This will significantly improve the quality of your equipment.
How equipment leveling works
At the start of the game, all the equipment you collect has no upgrades. Suppose you have purchased many souvenirs and immediately leveled up the workshop to rank 3. Items already in your inventory will remain at their base level, but if you buy a new piece of equipment after leveling up the workshop, it will automatically be of level +3, corresponding to the current rank of your workshop.
If you receive a duplicate of equipment already in your inventory, it will automatically receive a level +3, and its rarity will also increase. This process occurs regardless of whether the item was obtained from a container or chest, as a quest reward, or purchased from a merchant.
How to increase the rarity of equipment
There are several levels of rarity, each with its own color coding, giving the game a similarity to World of Warcraft. These rarity levels help quickly determine the strength and quality of items:
- Uncommon — marked in white;
- Common — marked in green;
- Rare — marked in blue;
- Epic — marked in purple;
- Legendary — marked in orange;
- Unique — marked in red.
Items in your inventory will automatically increase their rarity each time you receive duplicates, at least up to the legendary level. This means that with each new copy of an item, it becomes more valuable and powerful. However, unique items do not have duplicates, and their rarity cannot be increased. This makes them particularly valuable as they possess unique characteristics and effects that cannot be replaced.
