Nintendo eShop is a digital store for Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. Here you can buy and download games, DLC, demos, and Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions. However, due to certain restrictions, users may encounter an inability to download games from the digital store. In this case, you may need to change the region on your device. In this guide, we explain how to do it.
What is eShop
eShop is a built-in digital gaming platform for Nintendo devices. The ecosystem is a library where all projects available for the console are hosted. The application allows you to store games in the cloud, which helps to free up internal memory.
Users have hundreds of games on one handheld device, access to which is provided only by a stable internet connection. In addition, the platform allows you to launch projects from different generations of the console thanks to the backward compatibility system.
Thus, the platform that ensures the smooth operation of the system is an indispensable companion for the console. Thanks to this, the user can forget about constantly using cartridges and overflowing device memory.
How to Prepare the Console for Region Change
If you want to change the region on your device, you first need to make sure that auto-renewal for Nintendo Online is disabled on the console. In addition, before migrating your account, you must spend all funds that were on your account balance.
How to Disable Subscription Auto-Renewal
You can disable Nintendo Online subscription auto-renewal yourself; first, you need to unlink your card:
- Log in to eShop.
- Go to your account.
- In the left column, select "Settings".
- Click the "Change" button in the "Payment method for automatic renewal and pre-order payments" section.
- Change the payment method to "Funds Only".
Now, to disable subscription auto-renewal, follow these steps:
- In your account, in the left column, select "Online Services."
- Select your subscription.
- In the right corner, click the red "Terminate Automatic Renewal" button.
How to Contact Nintendo Support
You can write to the developer through the official website or directly to the technical support email.
In most cases, you will need the following information:
- Serial number of the console.
- Email to which the account is linked.
- Date of birth specified when creating the account.
Then you need to describe your problem in detail and provide your account and console information. After that, wait for a response from the developer within five business days. The reply will be sent to the email linked to your account.
Compose your support request in the following way:
Good afternoon!
Please disable the automatic renewal of my Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
Console serial number: ABC00123456789
Account email: your email address
Date of birth: XX.XX.XXXX.
How to Find the Console Serial Number, Email, and Date of Birth
There are three ways to determine the console's serial number:
- Box: on the front side in the lower right corner.
- Device: sticker on the bottom edge.
- Settings: go to "System", then to "Serial Numbers". The console serial number is displayed at the top of the list.
You can find your email, date of birth, and region in the main profile settings (System Settings):
- In the left column, select "Users".
- Click on the profile icon.
- Click on the "Check Your Account Information" window.
- Select the "View email address" button.
- Enter your account password.
There is another way to find out your date of birth: go to account settings (System Settings). Then in the "Your Info" section under "Profile", find the "Date of Birth".
How to Change Region
To fully use all eShop platform features, you need to change the region by following this algorithm:
- Open System Settings.
- In the left column, find the "System" button.
- Select the appropriate option in the "Country/region" field.
Similarly, change the region in the eShop store. Choose from the following options: Western Europe, Poland, Turkey. However, note that when you change the location, the language and currency will also change according to the selected country.
Which State to Choose in the USA
The fact is that most states have special tax regimes, so when registering, you will be asked to enter an address and select a state. Therefore, specify a region without tax on digital sales.
You can use one of the following ZIP codes:
- Corvallis, Oregon: 97330.
- Forest Grove, Oregon: 97116.
- Milwaukie, Oregon: 97222.
- Portland, Oregon: 97080.
- Bristol, New Hampshire: 03222.
It should be added that if you chose the USA and later want to transfer your account to another region, you will not be able to do so while there are funds on your internal balance. You will need to spend them first.
What You Need to Know When Using Cartridges
Cartridge – a physical medium for game copies for Nintendo consoles. The card is inserted into the top slot on the right.
Next, let's talk about the types of cartridges:
- LB: works only on Nintendo Switch 2 consoles.
- LP: requires additional download.
- LN: runs both on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
Cartridges can be purchased on marketplaces, as well as in home appliance and digital distribution stores. Quite often, cartridges can be found on online flea markets. We recommend avoiding this method of purchase because these platforms may have scammers, defective products, or counterfeits.
Nintendo does not have regional restrictions on cartridges. You can easily buy a cartridge for any region and run it on your device. Moreover, the game language will automatically be set according to the system language.
How to Use Top-Up Cards
The eShop store has a balance top-up system using gift cards. Electronic vouchers can be purchased on marketplaces, as well as from digital equipment retailers; sometimes cards are found at checkouts in some large supermarkets.
We strongly do not recommend purchasing gift cards on online flea markets, as you may encounter unscrupulous sellers who will sell you stolen or used keys.
Do Not Attempt to Hack the Console
Some "craftsmen" have already managed to hack the console, and perhaps soon there will be specialists ready to hack devices for a certain fee. It should be understood that this can lead to inevitable consequences:
- Account ban: every time you go online, the server authenticates the device on the official Nintendo server.
- No updates: the console remains in the state in which it was hacked, so all further updates for the console will be unavailable, the same applies to games.
- No online: if a game requires a constant internet connection, you will not be able to play it.
- Store access disabled: ban on purchasing games in the eShop store.
- No warranty service: if something happens to the console and the user tries to use warranty service at a service center, they will be refused.
- Console damage: hacking the console can literally turn it into a "brick" with no possibility of recovery, and the damage can occur at any moment. In the best case, repairing the device will be expensive, but even after repair, there is a risk of repeated failure.
IT companies spend enormous amounts of effort and money to provide players with quality games, devices, and services. Creating such a complex and comprehensive product is the colossal work of tens of thousands of highly skilled specialists, so "hacking" a console for fleeting gain is not entirely ethical. Moreover, by resorting to piracy, users severely limit themselves from all the capabilities of the console.
It is also not recommended to purchase accounts, as the resale of accounts is prohibited by Nintendo's policy. If developers suspect profile manipulation, they may block the console. As a result, the user risks losing money, since quite often sellers' accounts are subject to mass bans.
How to Download Games
Games can be launched offline using a cartridge, and some titles can be played right "out of the box" without connecting to the internet or downloading additional files. In addition, there are special microSD Express memory cards for Nintendo Switch 2, on which you can store downloaded games.
Games can be downloaded to the console from the eShop store library directly to the device, after which they can be transferred to a memory card. This allows you to play offline without connecting to the network (does not apply to games that require a constant internet connection).
