The vast world of Borderlands 4 offers many locations to explore, so having your own vehicle is extremely useful. There are 10 different vehicles in the game. Collecting them all will also earn you the Catch-A-Ride trophy.
Vehicles in Borderlands 4
Although the mechanics of vehicles remain the same as in previous games, you can now obtain personalized models. Whether you want to outrun enemies, crush opponents, or simply move around locations faster, getting your first vehicle in Borderlands 4 is an important step early in the game.
You can view available vehicles in the game via the Settings — Vehicles — Select Vehicle menu. This menu also shows the unlock conditions for each vehicle. The first 6 are unlocked automatically as you progress through story missions. The remaining 4 are awarded for completing character challenges required to reach level 50 with each of the 4 classes: Siren, Forge Knight, Gravitar, Exo-Soldier.
To view character challenges, open Missions — Challenges — Character. The list displays reward icons for each level, and the final reward for reaching level 50 is marked with a red vehicle icon. Don't confuse these with cosmetic vehicle items: those are unlocked by completing other challenges, tasks, and quests, and are marked with a red paintbrush next to the vehicle icon.
Unlocked vehicles are shared between your characters and across different save files, as they are stored in your profile's shared save. Therefore, once you unlock them for one character, you will immediately have access to them for all others. If you are inside a building or in a restricted area, you will not be able to summon a vehicle.
Vehicles have a health bar, a boost bar, and two firing modes: standard (similar to a machine gun) and intense (which fires a small volley of rockets). Both modes have unlimited ammo, but they are ineffective against groups of more than three or four enemies. Running over enemies does not deal damage.
Nevertheless, vehicle combat is useful for weakening small groups of enemies before dismounting to finish them off yourself. Your character does not take damage while in a vehicle, and even if the vehicle is destroyed, you can immediately get back into one.
How to Get the Digirunner
Can be obtained for completing the 3rd story mission Down and Outbound.
This mission becomes available right after finishing Recruitment Drive—the introductory quest where Claptrap traditionally causes chaos with his appearance. It is recommended to complete this mission as soon as possible to unlock the ability to summon vehicles anywhere on the map. Press X on your keyboard or the left D-Pad button on your controller to summon your car.
Other vehicles are purely cosmetic and do not affect stats—the changes only apply to appearance.

How to Quickly Unlock All Vehicles
The good news is that after your first playthrough of the story campaign, you can immediately start playing as other character classes, beginning at level 30. After finishing the story, go to the main screen, select New Game — Vault Hunter (level 30), and choose your character. This means you won’t have to level up from 1, you just need to level up your character from 30 to 50. With the right approach, you can reduce full leveling to just two characters.
First character: you will automatically reach level 50 by completing all 25 main missions and 98 side quests.
Second character: combine completing 80 contracts to achieve Freelance, but Not for Free, if you want to collect all achievements. Start a new character after finishing the story in Vault Hunter mode to begin immediately at level 30. Completing 80 contracts should bring this character to level 50.
Third and fourth characters: also start at level 30 in Vault Hunter mode. Then replay the Primal Vaults (combat arenas), which give about +1 level every 20–30 minutes. Leveling from 30 to 50 will take around 10 hours, depending on how quickly you clear enemies.
How to Customize Vehicles
You can modify your vehicle directly from the menu. Look for the Customize button, which contains all your unlocked items. Just like unlocking new vehicles, all these cosmetic items can be obtained by completing challenges, missions, and side quests in the open world, though Gearbox may also release some as rewards for SHiFT codes.
Paint jobs unlocked by completing missions and challenges can be applied to any available vehicle variant.
Hover drives determine your vehicle’s stats. If you feel your ride is too slow, swapping this part might help. This does not change the appearance of your vehicle. Each hover drive has a different stat distribution. For example, a drive may offer better handling than others, but have lower speed and acceleration.
Unlike vehicle appearance, hover drives are directly tied to weapon manufacturer loyalty rewards. The more you use a particular manufacturer’s weapons, the more loyalty rewards you receive, eventually unlocking the corresponding hover drive. As you collect rewards, you’ll unlock higher-level hover drives from that manufacturer. Don’t forget to check the menu to track your progress.
