What are Crests

Crests are special devices for equipping tools that grant additional skills and passive effects, influencing the heroine’s stats. Each crest has its own set of slots for charms. Moreover, the type of crest determines the set and style of needle attacks.

Below, we’ll describe how many tools can be equipped on crests and where to find them. We’ll also explain how Hornet’s attack style changes, and add that charm slots must be unlocked using Memory Lockets, which can be found in biomes or purchased from merchants.

Hunter Crest

The starting crest, available from the very beginning of the game.

Tool set:

  • White (1).
  • Red (2).
  • Blue (2).
  • Yellow (2).

Now let’s describe the attacks Hornet performs when wearing this crest.

  • Basic attack: Standard crescent slash.
  • Downward attack while jumping: Dives at a 45-degree angle.
  • Dash thrust: Forward stabbing lunge.
  • Charged attack: Two swings in a hemispherical arc. After the second hit, Hornet is pushed back slightly.

The following equipment works best with the Hunter Crest:

  • White tool Silkspear: Powerful forward needle throw.
  • Red tool Cogwork Wheel: Sends a large metal disc rolling along the ground.
  • Red tool Plasmium Phial: Adds one health slot.
  • Blue tool Longclaw: Slightly increases needle attack range.
  • Blue tool Pin Badge: Reduces needle cooldown time.
  • Yellow tool Magnetite Brooch: Attracts beads.
  • Yellow tool Magnetite Dice: Chance to avoid damage from an attack.

Reaper Crest

Head to the Greymoor and go through the tomb. The easiest way to reach the ruins is from Bellhart. Move east from the bench through the boss arena with Moorwing, then go north and find the passage to the left. Inside the burial site, you need to get past the spinning wheel with spiked stars, then climb up to where a body with the crest is lying.

Tool set:

  • White (1).
  • Red (2).
  • Blue (2).
  • Yellow (2).

With this crest, Hornet can perform the following attacks:

Basic attack: Alternating pinpoint strikes from above and below. The attack resembles the motion of a descending claw. The range is above average, but the speed is noticeably lower.

Downward attack while jumping: Spins around her axis with the needle, creating a hemispherical damage zone.

Dash thrust: A stabbing needle lunge that goes from bottom to top.

Charged attack: A powerful but slow needle swing from top to bottom, with an attack area covering more than half a circle.

To assemble one of the best builds for this crest, use this equipment:

  • White tool Silkspear: Needle dash forward.
  • Red tool Flintslate: Ignites the needle.
  • Red tool Flea Brew: Temporarily increases movement and attack speed.
  • Blue tool Spool Extender: Slightly increases the silk spool's capacity.
  • Blue tool Longclaw: Allows you to hit a bit further with the needle.
  • Yellow tool Scuttlebrace: Allows for a sharp backward dash in place.
  • Yellow tool Magnetite Dice: Chance to avoid damage when attacked.

Wanderer Crest

Find the Bonegrave in the western part of the Bone Bottom biome. To get there, head west from the shop located at the border of the Mosshome and The Marrow biomes. You need to reach the Wormways and exit south through this location into the bottom, where the burial site is located at the far west.

Inside, you’ll encounter many traps. If you see taut ropes, cut them to avoid an ambush. About halfway through, you’ll need to defeat a group of hostile pilgrims and reach the bottom of the grave, where a body with the crest lies.

Tool set:

  • White (1).
  • Red (1).
  • Blue (2).
  • Yellow (3).

Use this crest, and Hornet will have the following attacks:

  • Basic attack: Fast but short-ranged side strike, characterized by a sharp arc.
  • Downward attack while jumping: Sharp hemispherical strike. With this attack, Hornet doesn’t move in any direction, allowing her to bounce back without worrying about accidentally going into a diagonal attack.
  • Dash thrust: Sharp arcing strike. After the hit, she jumps back and can perform several attacks in a row without interruption.
  • Charged attack: A series of rapid needle thrusts. If the whole attack connects, most enemies will die instantly.

The following equipment works well with this crest:

  • White tool Silkspear: Powerful strike with a white spear.
  • Red tool Plasmium Phial: Expands health by one slot.
  • Blue tool Injector Band: Slightly speeds up binding.
  • Blue tool Longclaw: Allows you to hit a bit further with the needle.
  • Yellow tool Magnetite Brooch: Attracts beads.
  • Yellow tool Ascendant's Grip: Allows for a sharp backward dash in place.
  • Yellow tool Magnetite Dice: Small chance to avoid damage when attacked.

Beast Crest

Defeat the Savage Beastfly in the The Hunter's March location. Reach the bench in the center of the biome, descend down, move east, then go up.

To make the boss fight easier, use:

  • Blue tool Warding Bell.
  • Blue tool Fractured Mask.
  • Red tool Curveclaw.
  • Red tool Sting Shard.
  • Silk ability Thread Storm.

To kill the boss, study its behavior, get your timing right, and follow our recommendations:

  1. Charge. The bug descends toward Hornet and flies forward just above the ground until it hits a wall. You can jump over it, but it's better to perform several backsteps.
  2. Ground Slam. The monster hovers in the air, turns face down, and slams the ground three times in a row. You can use this to make it kill its own minions. Also, after the attack it will be close enough to the ground.
  3. Summon Bugs. After a short roar, a cage with a random bug will fall from the ceiling. You can attack the boss during the summoning. Note that the number of mobs it can summon is unlimited.

Tool set for the Beast Crest:

  • White (1).
  • Red (2).
  • Yellow (2).

With this crest, the heroine will have the following moves:

  • Basic attack: Fast strike resembling the silhouette of three claws slashing from top to bottom.
  • Downward attack while jumping: Hornet spins into a disc-like sphere and dives in an arcing attack.
  • Dash thrust: The heroine jumps and then strikes with three claws.
  • Charged attack: Jumps and then strikes forward with five large claws.

The following equipment suits this crest:

  • White tool Cross Stitch: Counters an incoming attack.
  • Red tool Plasmium Phial: Adds one health slot.
  • Red tool Flea Brew: Temporarily increases movement and attack speed.
  • Yellow tool Weighted Belt: When Hornet takes damage, she is not knocked back.
  • Yellow tool Magnetite Dice: There is a chance to ignore damage when hit.

Witch Crest

Head to Shellwood to Greyroot and bring him a Twisted Bud from the Exhaust Organ location, then complete the Rite of Rebirth and Infestation Operation quests.

Tool set:

  • White (1).
  • Red (2).
  • Blue (3).

Hornet gains these attacks:

  • Basic attack: Needle strikes turn into arcing white threads.
  • Downward attack while jumping: Arcing downward strike.
  • Dash thrust: Same as the Basic attack, but the thread extends forward.
  • Charged attack: Hornet performs a circular attack.

This crest is considered most powerful with the following equipment:

  • White tool Sharpdart: Three large needles appear behind the heroine and pierce the nearest enemy.
  • Red tool Curveclaw: A bone boomerang that flies in a circular trajectory.
  • Red tool Plasmium Phial: Adds one health slot.
  • Blue tool Injector Band: Hornet spends less time binding.
  • Blue tool Spool Extender: Adds a bit of silk to the spool.
  • Blue tool Pin Badge: Reduces needle cooldown time.

Architect Crest

Above the cauldron in the Underworks is the merchant Twelfth Architect, from whom you need to purchase the Architect's Key. To reach him, from the Grand Bellway elevator, travel to the Underworks, then head northeast to the architect’s shop.

Tool set:

  • Red (3).
  • Blue (2).
  • Yellow (2).

Now all needle attacks have an expanded hit area because they are performed with a spinning drill.

  • Basic attack: Attack with a spinning drill.
  • Downward attack while jumping: Diving attack at a 45-degree angle, with two versions: regular and enhanced.
  • Dash thrust: Hornet pauses briefly, then charges forward with the drill. Also has two variants: regular and strong.
  • Charged attack: The heroine jumps back slightly, then dashes forward with a huge drill.

The following equipment works best with the Architect Crest:

  • Red tool Tacks: Scatters spiky thorns on the ground.
  • Red tool Cogwork Wheel: Releases a large spinning metal disc.
  • Red tool Cogfly: Releases a mechanical fly. Up to four summons can exist at once.
  • Blue tool Pollip Pouch: Coats the needle projectiles with poison.
  • Blue tool Quick Sling: Doubles the number of thrown projectiles.
  • Yellow tool Shard Pendant: Increases the amount of shards obtained.
  • Yellow tool Scuttlebrace: Allows for a sharp backward dash.

Shaman Crest

Enter the Ruined Chapel in the northwest of the starting area. Move left from the bench to the sign and use the Silk Soar ability. Proceed to the end of the tomb and break open the huge shell.

Tool set:

  • White (3).
  • Blue (2).

When wearing this crest, Hornet attacks with arcing energy lines:

  • Basic attack: Sends a semicircular projectile forward.
  • Downward attack while jumping: Releases a crescent-shaped arc at a 45-degree angle.
  • Dash thrust: Hornet jumps, then sends a spinning energy circle downward.
  • Charged attack: Fires a long crescent-shaped line.

This crest is considered the strongest because it allows you to use three silk abilities at once. Below is a powerful set of tools for this build:

  • White tool Thread Storm: Surrounds herself with a vortex of silk threads.
  • White tool Cross Stitch: Wraps a thread around the needle, which reflects attacks.
  • White tool Pale Nails: Releases three white spikes above the heroine's head that attack enemies.
  • Blue tool Spool Extender: Increases silk spool capacity.
  • Blue tool Weavelight: Silk spool fills faster.
