Hollow Knight: Silksong Spool Fragments — All Locations and How to Get Them

In Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hornet can use Silk abilities. By attacking enemies with her needle, she extracts mana from them, which can be spent on healing or powerful spells. In this guide, we will tell you how to fully upgrade the spool and earn the "Extension" achievement.

The spool is responsible for storing Silk, and its initial size is only 9 threads. For comparison: the very first unlockable spell spends 4 threads, and healing requires the entire spool. However, as you progress through the game, you can collect spool fragments—there are 18 in total. After collecting two fragments, the spool size increases by one thread.

Take the elevator from Bone Lowlands up to Moss Home. Then, going right, you will enter a room with a vertical parkour section. Get through it, then break the fragile wall on the left and pick up the spool fragment.

From the boss arena in the "Mossy Grotto" location, go right to the door. You can open it using a melody played on the Needle Cello.

After entering, run right to the elevator and ride it down. Next, you need to climb up to the corridor shown in the screenshot. In the middle of the corridor, there's a hidden passage upwards. Climb up there and defeat the Muvnya to collect the fragment.

The first fragment you can pick up in the Deep Docks is in the area below the bench next to the Daughter of the Forges. From her, go left, then take the elevator down. Then drop down to the ledge with a passage on the right side of the vertical segment. Enter, complete a small parkour section with a heated floor, and get the spool upgrade.

The other part of the spool will be waiting for you at the far right end of the location. To get there, you will need a Simple Key and the "Harpoon" ability. From the bench near the Daughter of the Forge, head right and go down the hatch. Then go to the far right part of the location.

Here, activate the door using the harpoon and go inside. Next, you will need to complete a parkour section, after which you will receive a new fragment.

From the transition from the "Far Fields" location, go right to the first vertical segment. At its top, you will get the upgrade.

After killing the Widow, a wish board will appear in Bellville. There you can get the quest "My Missing Courier," after completing which a fragment will appear in the assortment of the merchant Freya, which can be purchased for 270 beads.

To obtain the spool fragment in this location, you will need the Heretic's Key. Otherwise, acquiring the item is straightforward, except for Hornet gradually freezing.

To reach the merchant Grindl, from whom you can buy a spool fragment, you will need the Feyforn Down Cloak, which allows you to perform a double jump.

From the “Honed Steps” station, exit to the left and wall-jump upwards until you reach the sign and the passage to the left. Enter, perform a double jump, and talk to Grindl. The spool fragment will cost 680 beads.

Also, in Honed Steps, you can get another spool fragment. After you find 15 lost fleas, talk to the caravan leader near the entrance to Bellville. Then head with the caravan to Honed Steps. As thanks for saving the fleas, you will receive an upgrade.

The upgrade is located at the top of the parkour section with the scales. It's easiest to start the parkour not from the bottom, but from the top, moving from the Arterio station "Choral Chambers".

To find the fragment in the location, you need to climb to the top of the first vertical parkour section with rings on wheels.

The upgrade will appear for sale from Jubilana after you rescue her in the Memorium during the “Missing Merchant” quest, which can be taken from the wish board. The spool fragment costs 500 beads.

In the "Main Mechanism" location, descend down, keeping to the right side. In the next room, you will find yourself in an arena with a sentry robot. After your victory, open the gates, then go through the ventilation shaft, and at the end, you will find a fragment.

The first item is at the bottom of the elevator shaft. You need to raise the elevator up to open the passage down. The easiest way to do this is as follows: at the top, press the plate so the elevator starts moving up, and meanwhile, jump down to the middle of the shaft, where you previously opened a passage while exploring the location. If you hide in the passage, the elevator will pass by, and you can safely jump to the bottom.

The second fragment can be obtained during the fulfillment of the wish "Balm for the Wounded," which is posted on the board in Song Nook. After rescuing Sherma, you will receive an upgrade.

The first fragment is located not far from the Arterio station "Lower Workshops". From there, go slightly down and to the left.

To get the second fragment, from the bench near the Architect, go right and jump down. There you will need to break the wooden supports on the left, after which a small room with a spool fragment will open.

Near the "Memorium" station, there is a parkour segment that is completed from top to bottom. After completing it, you will receive a fragment.
