Simple keys are among the useful things in Hollow Knight: Silksong. There are a total of 4 simple keys in the game, which you either need to buy or find. For the most part, finding the keys is not particularly difficult. Remember that keys are unique, so you choose what you want to unlock with them first.

Simple Key #1

The first key can be purchased from the merchant Peb in the Bone Lowlands, one of the starting locations. To do this, you’ll need to pay 500 beads, so it’s recommended to farm beads in Mohoam or the Deep Docks in advance.

Simple Key #2

The second simple key can be found on the Road of Sinners, at the very top of the location. To get it, you’ll have to defeat an enemy who will give you the coveted item.

Simple Key #3

The third key is sold by another merchant, Jubilana. To find her, you need to reach the location called First Altar, where you must first turn it into a pilgrim settlement. To do this, simply free the bell from silk and ring it, then talk to the shaman who appears nearby. If you return here after some time, you’ll notice more bugs have gathered and a quest board has appeared. There you can take a quest to find the merchant.

After rescuing her and returning to the First Altar, among other items you can buy the key itself, which will cost 650 beads. It’s recommended to farm beads in the room to the left of the bench in the Ringing Node.

Simple Key #4

This one is easier to obtain than the others, as it simply lies in one place. However, the location where it’s found isn’t so easily accessible. The key is located near the bench in the Karaka Sands, but to get there, you’ll first need to unlock several abilities that allow you to climb above the Honed Steps.

Where to Use Simple Keys

In the Deep Docks, there is a door that opens with a simple key. Behind it lies a significant part of this location, but the enemies there are much more dangerous and deadly.

In a location called the Wyrmholes, there is also a door that grants access to an additional area.

On the Road of Sinners, there is a cage containing a character named the Green Prince. Although he will say that you shouldn't release him, you can still unlock the cage. At first, this action won’t give you anything—no item or beads. However, later this character may unlock access to the secret location Verdania.

The last key can be used to unlock a door in the Upper Chambers. Behind it, you can obtain a significant amount of beads and shell shards, as well as unlock a shortcut that will make traveling through the Citadel easier.
