In Borderlands 4, skill progression is a key element for creating a powerful and unique build. If you feel that your current skills no longer suit you or if you want to try a new playstyle, the developers have provided the option to reassign your points. In this guide, we’ll explain in detail how this mechanism works and where to find special devices for changing your skill distribution.
How the Skill Respec System Works
Core Mechanism
While playing Borderlands 4, you earn character upgrade points that can be distributed across various skill trees. The skill reset system (respec) allows you to reclaim all spent points and redistribute them as you wish.
Respec Cost
There is a fee for redistributing skill points, paid in in-game currency. It’s important to note that:
- The cost is a percentage of your character’s total cash.
- The price may vary depending on your character’s level.
Specialization Points Reset
It’s also worth mentioning the ability to reset Specialization Points, which allow you to tailor your character to specific roles: Survivor, Bruiser, Sniper, or Runner. Specialization points are reset using Eridium.
Where to Find Skill Respec Machines
First Machine and Access Conditions. Skill respec machines become available after completing the main story quest Down and Outbound, which unlocks after finishing the Recruitment Drive quest.
You’ll encounter the first such device in The Launchpad — it opens at an early stage of the game, almost at the very beginning.
Machine Locations by Area
There are seven respec machines located throughout the world of Kyros, which can be found in key locations:
- The Launchpad. After exiting the teleporter, go up the stairs, leave the building through the left exit, and turn left. There will be a structure with two vending machines. Enter from the east side — the respec machine is located next to the Golden Chest.
- Carcadia. The main hall of the location contains a bank and vending machines. Right after entering, if you head to the right, you’ll find the machine there.
- Belton's Bore. Here, you won’t have to search long — the device is in the southern part of the zone, literally right by the spawn point.
- Bones of Sanctuary. The machine is located in an open area, east of the teleportation spot.
- The Lockaway. Moving northeast from the teleporter, you’ll come to large open gates — the machine is right next to them.
- The Sumpview Falls. Access to this machine opens later, after completing The Lockaway. It’s southeast of the teleportation point.
- The Food Court. In this zone, the machine can be found northwest of the entrance.
On the map, the machines are marked with a special icon in the shape of a triangle with three arrows or a figure of a person inside.
How to Use the Skill Reset Machine
Step-by-step instructions:
- Find a machine in one of the locations listed above.
- Approach the device and wait for the prompt showing the service cost.
- Hold the Use button.
- Wait for activation — after payment, the skill redistribution menu will open.
- Redistribute your skill points according to your new build.
Important Features
- You can choose between a full and partial reset: some machines offer the options Reset Tree (reset only the current tree) or Reset All (reset all skills).
- Unlimited respecs: the only requirement is to have enough money or Eridium.
