How to Complete the Twilight of the Age Quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong

The Twilight of the Age is a secret quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong, which becomes accessible only in the third act. This quest is also tied to an achievement of the same name. In this guide, we’ll tell you how to activate this mission and how to complete it.

The Twilight of the Age quest is entirely dedicated to the Herald, or Mr. Mushroom, one of the secret characters in Hollow Knight. If you talk to him, he will share his philosophical reflections about what has happened in the game. In Silksong, his search is arranged differently than in the first game, but it's not any easier.

To start the quest, you must first unlock the third act of the game and obtain the "Winged Silk" ability, which allows you to throw the needle upwards. After unlocking the skill, head to Fleatopia, and at the top you will find a secret room with a stone. After reading the inscription on it, a window will appear to accept the wish "Twilight of the Age".

The quest text is an eight-line poem, but only seven lines are of interest to us.

"Beneath the chapel, ruined by the monarch's will,

And above the camp, entwined with threads blacker than fear.

Beyond the foundation of the world and shells burned to ash,

Beside the surgeon in opal, at the crown of spinning towers,

The cage of she who rises against the silk of lies,

In the heights, a cruel heart that turns all to ice,

Above the cradle's peak awaits the last trial on earth,

And the age will pass, to which this mushroom was witness."

Each line is a clue to the whereabouts of Mr. Mushroom, whom you need to find. With each new clue, the search gets harder. To complete the quest, you need to follow each line in order and talk to the Herald. His location is marked by mushrooms on the ground; you can also hear his incoherent mumbling nearby. When you find such a spot, you need to play the needle-cello and talk to the Herald. After the conversation, you can move on to the next clue.

The first line is a clue about the ruined chapel, one of the starting locations.

The second line refers to a ruined camp. This is also one of the starting locations near the Ruined Chapel. You can find the mushroom at the same spot where Shakra usually sat.

The third line hints at a distant location, which means he is in the "Distant Fields".

The fourth line mentions the surgeon, from whom we remove a curse during one of the quests. Using this as a reference point, we head towards the Tinder Thicket.

The fifth line refers to the First Sinner, who is located in the Slab.

For the sixth line, you need to climb the Fairy Mountain again to the very top, where you previously obtained the double jump ability.

The seventh line points to the highest point in the Cradle. The final trial refers to a rather difficult platforming section; after completing it, you will not only find the Herald for the last time, but also unlock one of the secret locations.
