Silent Hill f invites players to dive into the story of a young schoolgirl fighting her fears, which have taken the form of monsters. She must embark on a dangerous journey through a fog-covered town. In this guide, we’ll explain how to open the door to Hinako’s room in the Shimizu family house, and show the correct plate arrangement for all endings.

How to Start Solving the Puzzle

First, get to the Shimizu family house and unlock all its levels. To do this, you need to go through the mountains into the city and follow the path from the prologue, defeating monsters along the way. Then, find the following items in any order:

  • Plate with a white bird and a fox: solve the “Ominous Photo” puzzle.
  • Plate with a black bird and a sword: find the “Bird Key.”
  • Plate with scales: solve the “Scales” riddle.

Once you’ve collected all the plates, go to the door to the right of the passage between the first and second levels of the Shimizu house. Read the note next to the screen and arrange the tiles in the correct order. The solution and the text in the hint change depending on the ending, and we’ll describe this in detail in the following sections.

Solution for the “Home, to the Native Nest” Ending

The standard solution for your first playthrough. The note will contain a poem:

Sword and Fox fought on the scales.
Even the heavens trembled at the fury of their struggle.
Day after day, the sun rose behind the Fox and set behind the Sword, but their battle never ceased.
However, the scales on which they fought had long ago been destroyed to the ground.

Following the hint, arrange the plates as follows:

  • Left slot (1): Sword.
  • Upper slot (2): Heavens.
  • Lower slot (3): Void.
  • Right slot (4): Fox.

Solution for the “Fox Wedding” Ending

For this ending, the note will contain the following poem:

Sword and Fox fought on the scales.
After a long and fierce battle, the Sword was defeated and the Fox prevailed.
Taking the Black Bird by the right hand, the Fox showed her the scales he held in the other.
Now you must make a choice, Black Bird.
Have you made your decision?
On one side of the scales was the Fox, and on the other — nothing.

Carefully reading the hint, you can conclude:

  • Left slot (1): Scales.
  • Upper slot (2): Fox.
  • Lower slot (3): Void.
  • Right slot (4): Black Bird.

Solution for the “The Fox Got Its Tail Wet” Ending

For this ending, the note says:

Sword and Fox fought on the scales.
After a long and fierce battle, the Fox fell, and the Sword won.
After that, their mark on the earth vanished without a trace.
The Sword rose to the sky, and the scales are now dedicated to the rising sun.
Now fly, White Bird. Fly away and never return!
The White Bird took to the air and flew toward the horizon, becoming a light silhouette against the setting sun.
Now nothing remains on the earth.

Accordingly, in this case, arrange the plates as follows:

  • Left slot (1): White Bird.
  • Upper slot (2): Sword.
  • Lower slot (3): Void.
  • Right slot (4): Scales.

Solution for the “Silence in Ebisugaoka” Ending

For the final ending, the hint contains a poem:

Black and white fought on the scales.
Neither needed the scales themselves; they just needed a quiet and neutral place where they could be together.
Whether we run or spread our wings and fly — only we can decide, and only when we are ready.
Those who descended from the heavens, imposing their will on others, were useless to them.

Therefore, you can conclude and arrange the tiles as follows.

  • Left slot (1): White Bird.
  • Upper slot (2): Void.
  • Lower slot (3): Heavens.
  • Right slot (4): Black Bird.

Why Open Hinako’s Room

Inside Hinako’s room is the pine emblem, which is lying on the writing desk in the front left corner by the lamp. With it, you can open the fan door, leave the Shimizu family house, and defeat two story bosses. However, keep in mind that the passage is guarded by a jumper and a multi-headed creature.
