Hell is Us Secrets Guide: How to Solve All Puzzles and Find Every Secret
Vladislav Sham
Hell is Us is an adventure game with elements of exploration and puzzles. It features 43 "Mystery" category quests, for which you can earn the "Homemade Detective" and "Book Detective" achievements. This guide will help you complete them all faster and collect rare trophies.
Most "Mysteries" are puzzles involving finding keys, codes, and passwords. Unlike "Good Deeds," they can't be missed — you can complete them even after finishing the main story.
The quests are listed in the order shown on the tablet in the "Exploration" — "Mysteries" section. Note: the menu displays the quest's completion location, not the region where it is obtained.
Senedra Forest
Mystery #1: Caddel Family Treasure
You need to find a rusty key. You can get to the place where it is located from the OMSIF camp. Once there, pay attention to the lit lantern. It will point to a path leading up the hill. Climb to the top and take the key lying on the red stone pyramid.
Stay on the rock and follow the path leading from the camp. You need to keep to the left side. You'll notice a small trail that's hard to see behind the trees. It will lead you to a blue stone pyramid. There you will find a chest that opens with the rusty key. Inside is a note "Caddel Family Treasure Hint" and an equipment item: Bracelet of Fortune (pointless destruction). It reduces stamina consumption when the main character has low health.
Mystery #2: Secrets of the Ram
There are ruins in the forest, head there and take the "OMSIF Report — Ram Heads" and "Ram Medallion (Crimson)", which will be lying near the path leading to the APC. Next, you need to go down into the dungeon. In one of the rooms, you will find the "Ram Medallion (Emerald)".
In the same dungeon, there is a door with circles on both sides. It will open if you place the medallions so that the ram heads face each other. Behind the door, you will find a reward in the form of a Limbic Sphere "Fright", which allows you to stun enemies by binding them with fear, and you'll also find the diary "Queen's Decree".
Mystery #3: Limbic Door — Senedra, Hilltop
The storyline will lead you to a place called the "Watchers' Nest," located in the Vissai Hills. Progressing through the main quest, you'll end up in a crypt with a sarcophagus, behind which the first limbic staff is hidden.
Once you get the mine key (after completing the story segment in St. Francis Church), climb the wooden scaffolding near where you first met Tanya. You should end up at the water tower, under which is the entrance to the mine. Going down the stairs, pay attention to the door nearby. Open it with the mine key.
Continue along the tunnel and you will see a second door, which is unlocked with the mine key. It is on the left side. The third such door is in the same area. After opening it, keep going until you find a structure illuminated by red light. If you pass by the enemies, keeping to the right side, you can spot a decorative corpse next to which is the second limbic staff.
The staffs you find will open the blue limbic door, which is located in Senedra Forest, in the ruins on the hill.
Mystery #4: Lymbic Door — Senedra, Underground
You need to get to the playground in the Talju location. You can reach it by following the road west from the town hall. The required quest items (Talju house key and Luhan ethnic map) are located near the swings.
Next, you need to find the house marked on the map received from Boro Huven. Go north of the city, where the house is, and go down to its basement. Here, the Talju house key will come in handy. Once in the room, find the first limbic staff.
Now go to Marastan and follow the instructions for finding research item #16. In addition to this item, you will find the second limbic staff and Caspian's research note.
With the collected keys, you will be able to unlock the limbic door in Senedra Forest. It is in the room where you receive the Flame Seal in Talju (after completing Good Deed #2: Lonely Fate at the end of Act Two).
Mystery #5: Emergency Stash
The story will take you to the Arcas Spire location. There is a cave here, which you can enter from the left side of the third save point (located on the scaffolding). Once inside the cave, keep to the right and look for a staircase going up, which will lead you to another rusty key.
On the lower level of the Spire, you'll see scaffolding in front of the elevator. You need to use the ladder on the right side and, going around the column, descend from the ledge to the right. There is an enemy there. Deal with him and continue to the dead end where there is a chest. Use the rusty key to open it. As a reward for completing the quest, you will receive five Tuning Stones — Steady for upgrading weapons.
Mystery #6: Righteous Protection
To find the brass key, you need to reach the large staircase strewn with corpses. The story route will bring you to this place. Once there, find a break in the steps and jump down to the enemies. Eliminate them and take the key.
At the top of the Spire, there is a room with an elevator. There is a chest inside. Open it with the brass key and take the equipment item "Bracelet of Fear (step into the shadow)", which increases dodge effectiveness when your health is full.
Acasa Marshes
Mystery #7: The Hermit
To complete the quest, you need to solve a puzzle. Go to the place with a stone circle and small pillars. It is located not far from the save point. To solve the puzzle, you must rotate the pillars in a certain way. Stand opposite the circle, facing the carved bas-relief. Moving counterclockwise, turn the pillars as shown in the screenshots.
If everything is done correctly, you will hear the sound of a secret opening. Now you can take the reward lying in the center of the circle: 5 weapon upgrade stones, two limbic spheres, the relic "Aarlon's Last Battle", which makes the hero immune to control effects when exhausted.
To find out the correct combination, you need to go to the photo shop located in Talju. Find the zoom lens there and give it to the Hermit. After reloading the location, a photograph with the correct pillar arrangement will appear in his house.
Mystery #8: The Captain's Office
Find the house in the village of Jova with graffiti saying "die subs" and "death to all subs." Go up the improvised wooden ramp to the garage roof and enter. In the kitchen, take the almost empty bottle of mead from the fridge.
The next stage of the quest can be started after completing the story part related to the Patem Monastery. The events will bring Abbot Jeffer and Rebecca to Lake Cynon. You need to follow them. They have moved to a house near the place where you solved the puzzle and drained the water to open the passage to the limbic forge. As soon as you find Abbot Jeffer, pay attention to the box on the floor to his right. There, pick up the full bottle of mead.
Now you need to exchange both bottles of mead for the Captain's Office key. The exchange takes place in the village of Jova with a drunken soldier. After receiving the key, climb onto the roof of the building where Vaas used to live. Go through the attic, jump down to the balcony, and open the door.
Mystery #9: Observation Outpost 08
Northeast of the village of Jova is a closed peacekeeper camp. To get inside, you need to enter the code for the main gate: 151991. The mystery will be solved after reading the entry on the computer in the right tent.
Mystery #10: Martial Lineage
East of the gallows tree in Jova, there is a hill with stone pillars. There is a locked passage there. You need to face the hill from the southwest and stand so that all the pillars are in front of you. You must strike them in the correct order.
First, hit the column that stands almost next to the tree. Then the pillar that stands in the field. Next, the column next to the fallen tree. The pillar near the door should be activated last. In any case, the correct order of activation is indicated in Vitalis's note.
If all the columns are activated in the correct order, a passage to the basement under the hill will open. Use it and complete the mystery.
Mystery #11: The Protector
After closing the time loop in Patham Abbey, you will receive the Golden Clover and the research item "Light of Setiris".
To the west of the village of Jova is a cemetery. You need to find the tombstone in its northwest corner and use the Golden Clover. As a reward for completing the quest, you will receive the scroll "Funeral Speech" and the relic "Blood Seeker", which allows you to restore health and energy when defeating an enemy.
Mystery #12: Enlightenment
Completing this mystery will take quite a bit of time. To solve it, you need to complete several torch puzzles, which are arranged in pairs and found in different parts of the Acasa Marshes.
Southwest of the village of Jova, there is a swamp with a stone monolith in the middle. Go there and find the descent into the dungeon. Below are two torches. You need to light the left one. Note that you do not need to interact with the right torch.
After completing Mystery #10, you will gain access to a room with torches. Again, you need to turn the left one. Remember, do not interact with the right torch!
Next, you need to go to the Patem Monastery. In the dungeon where you met Abbot Jeffer, there is a passage with an iron grate, opened by a lever. Opposite it are two quest torches. This time, you must light the right torch. Do not touch the left one.
Reveal Mystery #9. Since you need to get into the peacekeeper camp, if you keep to the left side of the camp, you can spot the entrance to the dungeon. After descending into the cave, take the first right turn. It will lead you to the desired room. Defeat the enemies there and light both torches.
Now you need to go down into the catacombs under the village of Jova. You can access the dungeon through the well in front of Rebecca's house. You will find the torches in a well-lit room. When interacting with the left torch, you will hear a door open. Go upstairs and enter the secret room.
Mystery #13: Lymbic Chest — Acasa, Vitalis' Basement
The storyline will lead you to the basement of Vitalis' house in the village of Jova. There you will find a locked room. The code for the door is 321713. Inside the room is a note about "Lymbic Locks" and the first limbic staff. The second is behind the red box in Jova's forge. It becomes available after rescuing Victor.
Both staffs will open the chest in the basement of Vitalis' house. This is how you solve this mystery.
Mystery #14: Lymbic Door — Acasa, Western Monument
The first limbic staff is in the village of Jova, in the corridor opposite the gate that opens a shortcut to the road leading to the marshes. You can get there through the well in front of Rebecca's house.
The second limbic staff lies in the center of the ruins north of the gallows tree.
Now you need to reach the marsh with the stone tower, southwest of Jova. Under the tower is a dungeon with a limbic door. Use both found staffs to open it.
Mystery #15: Lymbic Chest — Acasa, Eastern Ruins
At Patham Abbey, to the right of the time loop, lies the first limbic staff.
East of Jova, on the edge of the location, are stone ruins. There is a green limbic chest there, which you can open with the staff from the abbey.
Vyssa Hills
Mystery #16: Lymbic Chest — Vyssa Hills, Fort
After the story segment in St. Francis Church, where you used the snake, moon, and palm symbols, return to the top of the hill using the tunnels. Once you pass through the dungeon, use the path to the right of the enemies and take the Lymbic Staff of Fortune, which will open the chest.
Now you need to return to the area with the gates. You can do this using the shortcut located near the door where you used the moon symbol. It is best to open this shortcut in advance. You can reach it by going through the mines and using the mine key.
At the top, near the save point and not far from the ruins with the moon symbol, you will find the Lymbic chest. Open it to receive the Theta Amino Prism.
Mystery #17: Lucky Break
Go to the mine located in Vyssa Hills, not far from the first time loop. Once in the tunnel, turn when you see the first left turn. Go a little further, and you will notice a well-lit passage on the left. Turn there and go to the end. At the dead end, there will be a skeleton and a rusty key.
Go to the end of the dungeon. Open the door and use the ladder. After climbing it, unlock the door that leads into the building. Pay attention to the path located to the southwest (there is a windmill above the path). It goes up and to the left through a small waterfall.
Follow this path to the ruins. Destroy the enemies and open the chest with the rusty key. As a reward for completing the quest, you will receive a Lymbic Spear and a research item — "Medallion with a Flower".
Mystery #18: Eternity
This mystery is revealed after unlocking the computer in the Watchers' Nest. It is on the desk in the room where Gildas Brom sits. The password for this computer is 241244. To complete the quest, read all the entries.
Mystery #19: Pilgrimage
In the north of the Misty Plains, there is a small staircase leading to some ruins. Climb it and head west. Cross the boards over the broken bridge, and you will see steps that lead you to a wooden platform where an enemy will attack you from a distance. You need to reach this platform and jump down from it to the ruined building with the eye symbol. There you will find a hollow key and the "Exodus" note.
Return to the Vyssa Hills location. Go to the ruins with the palm symbol, where the second time loop is located (the place with the giant statues). In these ruins, you will find a wooden chest that must be opened with the hollow key. As a reward, you will receive two steady stones for weapon upgrades and the "Lymbic Needles (strong)" symbol.
Lake Cynon
Mystery #20: Lymbic Chest — Lake Cynon, Reservoir
The first limbic key is located in the Acasa Marshes. Go to the place where the main time loop is, and head east from there. After crossing the bridge, turn south (right turn near a car wreck). Go past the save point over a wooden bridge until you reach the paved road blocked by a fallen metal structure (power line tower). Right under it lies the first limbic staff.
To get the second limbic staff, you need to solve Mystery #9: Observation Outpost 08. The staff is in the camp inside one of the tents.
Now you can open the chest. It stands opposite the entrance to the limbic forge at Lake Cynon.
Mystery #21: Lost Keys
At the bottom of the reservoir, to the right of the entrance to the limbic forge (Lake Cynon), you will find keys with seaweed. You will need them to open the green chest in the city of Marastan.
In Marastan, you will find Samo's General Store on the upper level of the location. The chest is in the back of the shop. Open it and take the Cap of Fear to complete the quest.
Mystery #22: Safekeeping
At Lake Cynon, there is a house where Abbot Jaffer and Rebecca move after the story dialogue in Act Two. When they settle in this house, the doors to the workshop next to Rebecca will open. Inside, you will find a simple key and the "On Safekeeping" note.
Go to the entrance of the Patham Monastery location, which is in the Acasa Marshes. Opposite the entrance, there is a small dead-end tunnel. Inside, there is a locked chest. Open it to receive the "All-Seeing Eudemon" relic, which gives a chance to avoid damage from an enemy's strike.
Mystery #23: Lymbic Door — Lymbic Forge
Descend into the first large area of the Lymbic Forge. At the bottom, between two waterfalls, there is a chest with the first Lymbic Staff of Fear.
At the place where the wooden mechanism for draining water is located, there are scaffolds. On one of the wooden platforms stands an enemy who uses ranged attacks. The second Lymbic Staff of Fear is just above him, on a stone wall.
Descend again from the same save point, but this time go through the arch with the raised grate. The grate will lower as soon as you enter, blocking your way back. Move west to the dead end, where you will find the third Lymbic Staff of Fear.
After the water has completely drained, while in the room with the wooden mechanisms for draining water, go down to the lowest area of the location. The door unlocked by the collected staffs is on the north side. Pick up both items in the room that opens.
Mystery #24: Lymbic Chest — Lymbic Forge, Hall
Starting from the water-draining mechanism in the Lymbic Forge, jump from the left ledge onto the wooden bridge to the scaffolding. Then go through the door to the west. This path should lead you to a room with a balcony where a pulpit is located. Jump onto it and go into the library. There you will find a large gear and a Lymbic Staff of Wrath.
Now you need to return to the room you opened with the owl key (the room with the rotating torches). In this room, you will find a Lymbic chest. Open it with the Staff of Wrath and take your reward.
Mystery #25: Lymbic Chest — Lymbic Forge, Dormitory
Reach the library using the path described above (Mystery #24). Once there, go to the adjacent room through the door on the right and take the Neutral Lymbic Staff from the scroll shelf.
Now go to the dormitory through the room where you previously had to place two symbols to open the door. The Lymbic chest, which you can open with the Neutral Staff, is located between two bunk beds.
Talju
Mystery #26: The Hideout
You need to get to the second floor of the house. The guide for research item #27 — Orunwe's Journal (Worn Journal) — will help you.
Once in the room, you will see a wardrobe with a safe on top, locked with a code. Enter the combination 34911 to open it. Inside are "Agatha's Journal" and the equipment item "Idol of Rage (Contempt)".
Mystery #27: History Lesson
The mystery will be revealed as soon as you take the contents of the safe, which is located near the main gates in the Leta location — the National Library. It is lying on a dumpster near the security booth. The safe combination is 81643. Inside are the Amino Prism Ro, research item "Ancient Mask", and the "Caspian's Mask" note.
Mystery #28: Supply Chain
You can start this mystery after, during the main story, the survivors from the city hall leave Talju. When this happens, you will be able to enter the pharmacy using the door in the parking lot. But first, you need a key. Go to the playground and climb the stairs opposite the swings. You will see a corpse on the railing. Search it and take the pharmacy key.
Go to the city center and use the key. Next, you need to use the computer. To unlock it, enter the code: 91012. The mystery will be completed as soon as you read the note.
Marastan
Mystery #29: Ill-Gotten Gains
In the city area of the location, there is a house with an open basement. You can find it in the northwest. Going through the basement, you will end up on a path that leads into the forest. Follow it to a shallow cliff. Then jump down and enter the cave. If you keep to the left side, you will find the Marastan Church Key and the "Tithe" note.
Under the church in Marastan, there is a crypt. The main story will lead you there. While in this dungeon, use the passage to the north of the central room. Turn left and almost immediately right, then turn left again. This route will bring you to a door. Open it with the Marastan Church Key.
Mystery #30: Lymbic Chest — Marastan, Ruins
To activate the quest, you need to pick up the "Lymbic Staff of Fear". You can find it in one of the burial sites, accessible from the central room. Use the southern passage and turn east. Follow the corridor to the end. The staff will be on the left side.
The chest opened by the staff is located in the ruins. The easiest way to reach the right place is from your APC. Once nearby, go a little further ahead, then turn left. Follow the path and you will see the ruins. A small tunnel will help you get into the inner courtyard. A wooden bridge behind the ruins will lead you to it.
After passing through the tunnel, you need to climb the nearest ladder and jump down into the central part of the ruins. Then use the ladder in the southeast corner. It will let you get onto the wall and walk along it to the exact place where the chest is located. To open it, use the "Lymbic Staff of Fear". As a reward, you will receive the Theta Amino Prism.
Mystery #31: Locked Down
To complete this quest, you need to unlock the computer located in the checkpoint booth in Marastan. It is at the end of the road going east from the APC. When you reach the computer, enter the code: 4132.
Lethe — National Library
Mystery #32: The Conspiracy
On the top floor of the library, there is a computer room. This is a semi-ruined area where a helicopter has crashed. To solve the mystery, you need to reach this room and read the records stored on the computer. The password to access the system is 731596.
Mystery #33: Suspicious Activity
Also on the top floor of the library, there is a staff room. To open it, you need to enter the code: 5055. There you will find the "Blackmail" note and car keys stored in a personal locker. They will open the trunk of a blue SUV parked in the lot. Inside you will find a baseball cap and research item "Eye of God (Pottery Fragment)".
Lethe — Ministry of Cultural Primacy
Mystery #34: Blackmailed
To start the quest, go up to the top floor to the secretary's room. Take the service car keys lying on the table. Next, you need to jump down to the floor below and go to the office, where you will find the "Lymbic Staff of Joy" under the table. Now go down to the second underground level of the parking lot and open the trunk of the blue car, which is to the left of the ambulance. There you will find the second "Lymbic Staff of Joy".
Head to Lake Cynon and go to the Lymbic Forge. There you will find the yellow Lymbic door (north of the water-draining mechanism). Open it using the "Lymbic Staffs of Joy" you found.
Plains of Mist
Mystery #37: Ascetic Vows
Starting from the pressure plate puzzle, go straight into the second room and turn right. There will be two ladders. Climb up and, after moving forward a bit, jump down onto the wooden platforms. Go past the broken statues and turn into the passage on the left. You will see some steps and a passage to the right of them. Go through it and turn left immediately after the wooden bridge. Pick up the rusty key lying next to the barrels. Go to the passage a little further ahead and open the iron door with the key you just found.
Auriga Museum
Mystery #40: Great Responsibility
After closing the time loop on level B4, you will gain access to a hatch leading to the storage area. The first item you encounter there ("Iron Crown" symbol) will start the quest.
To complete the mystery, you need to return to the room with the statues of the Hollow (opposite the APC) and open the door on the left using the symbol.
