The Outer Worlds 2: How to Cure Drug Crash Status Effect

Vladislav Sham

In The Outer Worlds 2, a new mechanic has been introduced that prevents you from using the inhaler too often. This rebalance encourages players to make thoughtful tactical decisions, especially on higher difficulty levels. However, there are several ways to remove this status or avoid it altogether. In this guide, we’ll explain how to do it.

The principle of this new feature is quite simple: when you use medicine, the Toxicity bar fills up. When it reaches its limit, the main character experiences a Drug crash. While this status effect is active, you cannot restore health using the inhaler.

How to Prevent the Drug Crash Effect

Connoisseur Perk

Each level of the Medicine skill increases the toxicity threshold. In addition, the Medicine skill tree has several useful perks. The Connoisseur perk is available at Medicine level one. It grants +25% healing from food and drinks, as well as +25% to inhaler charge. It’s best to get this skill early in your character’s development.

Pharm-thuralist Perk

At Medicine skill level two, the Pharm-thuralist perk becomes available. This skill reduces inhaler toxicity by 25%.

Crash Recovery Perk

When your Medicine reaches level eight, you’ll have the chance to get the useful Crash Recovery perk. This perk grants health regeneration (+2% health per second) while under the drug crash effect.

How to Remove the Drug Crash Effect

Life-saving AutoDoc

AutoDoc stations can be found in almost every location in The Outer Worlds 2. Using one will fully restore your health, remove all status effects, and refill your inhaler with two charges for free. However, each AutoDoc will only restore inhaler charges once.

Doc Barnes

Most settlements have doctors. You can usually find out their locations from local residents. For a certain fee, NPC doctors will heal your wounds and remove status effects (including drug crash).
