Of Ash and Steel is a classic RPG set in a dark medieval fantasy world. Players will journey to the island of Greyschaft, inhabited by dangerous creatures and marauder gangs. In this guide, we’ll explain how to unlock every perk and what bonuses they offer.

What Are Perks?

Perks are permanent passive upgrades that unlock when you meet certain conditions. You’ll find them in the “Attributes” section, and they’re divided into two types: “Sense of the World” and “Will to Live”. Most perks boost your character’s stats, but some grant special abilities. The following sections detail how to unlock every perk.

Note: On higher difficulty levels, some perks have tougher requirements. For example, for “Nothing to Fear” you need to drink 50 bottles on Easy, but over 80 on the “Greyschaft” mode.

The Road is Made by Walking

Sprint stamina cost reduced by 25%. Use sprint as often as possible. This perk unlocks after spending about 5,000 stamina while running.

Knowledge is Power

+5 Insight. Read 30 books. You can find books all over Greyschaft. For example, “Grey Mist” is in Nerest’s house.

Cutting Through Space

+1 Skill Point. Travel through ten different portals.

Cartographer by Calling

+2.5% to all experience gained. Uncover all map marker points.

Ancient Knowledge

+2.5% to all experience gained. Find all eight books that grant skills from the “Ancient Knowledge” tree.

Master Miner

You get twice as much ore from every hit. Mine over a hundred units of any ore.

Fearless

+50 Stamina. Drink 50 bottles of any alcohol. Potions count too.

Silver Tongue

+10 Insight. Successfully pass 50 persuasion checks in dialogues.

Golden Hands

+1 Attribute Point. Craft 100 items. Cooking food and brewing potions don’t count.

Shovel Master

+500 XP for every treasure found. Dig up 20 chests.

Master Lockpicker

50% chance not to break a lockpick on failed attempts. Pick 50 locks—doors count too.

Master Thief

Doubles experience gained for stealing. Successfully pickpocket 50 times.

Bottomless Stomach

Increases metabolism and slows down hunger and thirst depletion. Cook and consume 300 units of any food.

Forest Dweller

+5 Agility. Clear out 15 camps.

Skilled Archer

Chance to recover an arrow after shooting. Successfully hit a target 300 times.

Heavy Hitter

+5 Strength. Successfully perform 100 heavy attacks. You can use a training dummy.

Fencer

+50 Stamina. Spend over 1,000 stamina or land 500 light hits in real combat. Training dummies count.

What Doesn’t Kill Us…

+5 to all types of defense. Take 500 damage or 100 hits without wearing armor.

Natural Selection

Boosts immunity, reducing its natural decline. Keep your immunity above 90% at all times.

Steel Bones

Chance to receive a severe injury -50%. Suffer a severe injury 100 times.

Nimble Feet

You no longer slip on puddles or trip over branches. Slip in a puddle or trip over a branch 30 times.

Shadowboxing

+3 Attribute Points. Hit a training dummy 50 times. Using a rapier and the scarecrow near Nerest’s house is recommended.

Always Hit the Weak Spot

+5% Critical Hit Chance. Deal 50 critical hits. Training dummies count.

Cold-Blooded Killer

+2 to all attributes. Kill 100 creatures or people.
