How to Beat the Crimson Nightmare in Crimson Desert

The Crimson Nightmare is a tough boss in Crimson Desert that you’ll need to beat by dodging attacks and controlling the cube with your skills. First, you need to finish the side quest House Roberts, where you fight Marni’s Excavatron (we have a separate guide for that boss). In the second episode, Continuing Concern, head south, clear out the bandit camps and a large fort.

Battle with the Crimson Nightmare

The Crimson Nightmare appears as a cloud of poisonous smoke with a small metal cube at its core, making it very different from most enemies. It doesn’t take damage from arrows, so ranged attacks won’t help here. The main mechanic is all about its movement, after it attacks, the cube stays on the ground for a few seconds, and that’s when it’s most vulnerable to damage and control effects.

Main Boss Attacks

  • Overhead Slam: The cube launches off the ground and then comes crashing down on your character. After landing, it stays on the ground for a couple of seconds.
  • Poison Orbs: The boss slams the ground and releases several poisonous clouds. You need to jump to avoid them during this attack.
  • Poison Clouds: Spawns toxic clouds on the ground.
  • Cube Charge: The cube dashes toward you and then slams the ground.

Boss Weaknesses

  • Vulnerable while landing after a jump, this is your main window to deal damage.
  • Takes damage when the cube is on the ground after attacks.
  • Control effects (stun and grab) let you safely deal damage.

Crimson Nightmare Features

  • Immune to arrows, ranged attacks are ineffective.
  • Constantly creates poison zones, limiting your movement.
  • Bandits spawn in the arena during the fight and can distract you.
  • The fight takes place in a small arena where it’s easy to get hit.
  • Most of the boss’s damage comes from contact attacks and poison clouds.

Extra Tips for Fighting the Crimson Nightmare

To defeat the Crimson Nightmare, it’s important to control the arena and keep up the pace of the fight. The main mistake is getting distracted by mobs and missing your chance to attack the boss.

  • Use a protective mask. The red hood drops from bandit bodies.
  • Don’t get distracted by mobs. Usually, they stay at the edge of the arena and shoot at you.
  • Buy the Force Current skill. Grab the cube with your magic hand and stun it with Force Palm.
  • Don’t bother with ranged attacks, the boss is completely immune to arrows.
  • With only basic skills and gear, this fight will be tough. Your character should have high stamina and upgraded magic abilities, like Double Jump.

The fight with the Crimson Nightmare is all about patience and control, if you take advantage of the moments after its attacks, the boss won’t be much of a threat, even early in the game.
