Saros Consort Boss Guide — Can You Beat the Tutorial Boss?

Vladislav Sham

The Consort is the first boss you encounter in Saros, appearing right after you finish the basic tutorial. The game clearly sets him up as an opponent you are expected to lose to: you only get one attempt, and after defeat, the main story begins immediately. However, with the right skills, you can actually beat the Consort. In this guide, we’ll explain how to defeat the Consort, which tactics to use, and whether the reward is worth the effort.

After you lose, the main story kicks off, and you’re left with the impression that Saros is a tough and unforgiving game where every mistake comes at a price. The extra challenge is that you cannot simply retry the fight: if you lose, the story moves on. But it is possible to win. Still, it’s important to know that beating the boss does not affect the story, and the reward may not feel worth the effort. In other words, this is more of a challenge for the most persistent and attentive players rather than a required part of the playthrough.

How to Retry the Consort Fight

If you already lost to the Consort, you can still try again. However, you cannot do this by simply loading your last save. After you lose, the game pushes the story forward, so to get another shot, you’ll need to use a different save slot.

You do not need to mess with PlayStation settings or manually delete game data. Just open the Game Slots menu in Saros and create a new save file. After that, you can delete the previous slot where you already lost to the Consort. This puts you back at the beginning, letting you replay the intro and reach the boss again.

If you lose again, just use another free slot and repeat the process. Basically, this is the only convenient way to practice the Consort fight, since the game does not let you replay the battle directly after dying.

You also do not need to waste time and health on enemies during the tutorial. You can simply run past them, since they do not drop anything important enough to risk taking damage. The main goal is to reach the Consort as quickly as possible and, more importantly, with as much health as you can. The less damage you take before the boss arena, the better your chances of finally winning on your next attempt.

How to Defeat the Consort in Saros

The main rule for the Consort fight is simple: focus on survival first, damage second. If you try to brute-force the boss, he will punish you for every moment of greed.

Start the fight at mid-range. Do not get too close to the boss—it makes it harder to read his moves and spot ground attacks, lasers, and projectiles in time. But do not stay too far away either, or you will lose accuracy and the attack patterns will be wider and harder to dodge. The ideal spot is mid-range, where you can see the boss, his attack tells, and have open space around you.

But the most important thing is to learn how to react to each of the Consort’s attacks. The boss has several attack types, and each requires a different approach:

  • Blue projectiles — you can block these with the Soltar Shield or dash through them. Dashing gives you temporary invulnerability to yellow and blue projectiles, but timing is key.
  • Yellow charges — you can simply dodge these or dash through them.
  • Red projectiles — you cannot dash through these. You need to maneuver and keep your distance. Also, remember that some red attacks are homing. The columns on the arena are very useful here, since you can hide behind them.
  • Expanding yellow rings on the ground — you need to jump over these or dash through them.
  • Stationary vertical yellow beams — you just have to walk around them.

The most effective tactic in the Consort fight is to use the columns in the arena. They act as cover and help you survive the most dangerous moments: you can hide behind columns from red projectiles and some yellow attacks, and shoot at the boss while staying relatively safe.

However, there is an important detail to this tactic: columns can block your view, especially when the Consort uses expanding ground rings that you need to jump over in time. If the boss starts this attack, it is better to move away from the columns and the boss himself so you can see the whole arena. This gives you more time to jump, change position, or use the Soltar Shield when needed.

What Is the Reward for Defeating the Consort

For defeating the Consort, you will receive 150 Lucenite and 1 Alcyon. This is a useful but not unique reward, and it does not affect the story, any secret ending, or getting the platinum trophy.
