Gothic 1 Remake: How to Become a Templar in the Swamp Camp
In Gothic 1 Remake, you can become a Templar, but this is not a separate character class. It is a progression path for a hero who has joined the Swamp Camp. Templars are warriors and followers of the Brotherhood of the Sleeper who focus on melee combat, two-handed weapons, and sturdy armor. In this guide, we explain how to become a Templar, when Cor Angar gives you the quest, where to perform the ritual with Y'Berion's ashes, and how to get the Templar armor.
When You Can Become a Templar
In Chapter 2 or Chapter 3, once Cor Angar returns to the arena in the Swamp Camp, he will offer you the chance to join the Templars. He is the only character who opens this progression path. After the dialogue, you will receive Y'Berion's ashes, a valuable artifact required for the ritual.
If Cor Angar says nothing and does not give you the quest, try collecting all the Focus Stones in Chapter 3 first. For most players, the quest appears after these conditions are met.
Where to Perform the Ritual With Y'Berion's Ashes
To find the ancient tree, head to the northwestern part of the Swamp Camp. There is an improvised altar nearby. Walk around this area until an interaction point appears. Once the ritual begins, two mid-level novices will attack the hero.
Another option is to perform the ritual in the orc crypt that you already visited during the main quest. Cor Kalom's followers are now inside. Enter the crypt and keep going straight until you find the altar. Interact with it and scatter the Y'Berion's ashes you received earlier.
How to Complete the Templar Initiation
Regardless of which altar you choose, return to Cor Angar in the Swamp Camp after the ritual. As a reward, you will receive another 700 experience points and officially become a Templar. Angar can teach you standard and master-level two-handed weapon combat for 30 and 40 learning points, respectively. After that, head to the arena and talk to Gor Na Toth to receive a set of Templar armor. You can upgrade it at Darrion the blacksmith.
