In Gothic 1 Remake, the Letter from the Fire Mages quest is given at the very beginning of the game. The Nameless Hero needs to deliver the message to the mages' temple inside Gomez's castle. In this guide, we explain how to enter the inner ring of the Old Camp, where to find Milten and Torrez, who should receive the letter, and which reward is best at the end of the quest.

How to Get Into Gomez's Castle in the Old Camp

The Letter from the Fire Mages quest begins after the opening cutscene. The hero needs to deliver the letter to the Fire Mages, but you cannot reach them right away: the temple is located in the inner ring of the Old Camp, behind the gates of Gomez's castle, and the guards do not let outsiders through.

To enter the inner ring of the Old Camp, you need official permission. The easiest way is to progress through the introduction to one of the camps. After that, Torrez will let the hero pass. There is also another option: pay Torrez 1000 ore nuggets. However, this is far too expensive early in the game and usually not worth the time.

Where to Find Torrez in the Old Camp

Torrez moves around the camp and can be found in two places:

  • At the marketplace, to the left of the entrance;
  • In the courtyard between the castle and the Temple of Innos.

If you plan to complete all quests and raise your reputation as much as possible, it is better to earn the respect of influential people in the Old Camp and receive permission that way. To do this, talk to Diego and complete the A Shadow's Chance and Test of Faith quests. This means you will not have to join a faction or waste time gathering ore.

Where to Find Milten and Who to Give the Fire Mages' Letter To

Once you enter the inner ring of the Old Camp, go left from Gomez's castle and look for the Temple of Innos. Milten will be standing near the entrance. Talk to him and decide what to do.

  • If you give the letter to Milten, you will need to wait a little and return to him later. After that, you can collect your reward from Torrez. You will be able to choose between a Ring of Dexterity (+5 Dexterity), a Ring of Strength (+5 Strength), a Spirit Essence (+2 permanent Mana), or three scrolls: Fireball, Lightning, and Transform into Scavenger. No matter which reward you choose, you will also receive 200 experience points;
  • If you give the letter to Torrez and refuse Milten, you will receive 200 experience points and a Ring of Strength (+5 Strength) as your reward.
  • If you refuse Milten, read the letter, and then give it to Torrez, the hero will be scolded. As a reward, you will receive 100 experience points and a healing elixir.

Any choice will complete the quest.

The best option is to give the letter to Milten. This way, you receive 200 experience points and can choose your reward from Torrez yourself.
