Mortal Shell 2: How to Get Ova, Fruits, and Mushrooms

In Mortal Shell 2, the word "fruits" can mean two very different things, so it's worth separating them right away:

  1. Ova — a special, non-renewable resource needed to unlock fast travel and access the game's finale;
  2. Consumable fruits and mushrooms — ordinary items (Mango, Tarspore, Weltcap) that grow throughout the world and are used for healing or quests.

In this guide, we'll cover how to find and farm both kinds.

Progression Fruits (Ova)

These are awarded for cleansing the dungeons inside Beacons and clearing Corrupted Gates.

How to Collect Your First 8 Ova (Fast Travel)

To activate Mether's Breath (fast travel between points), you'll need to bank exactly 8 Ova. It's very important not to spend them on other minor needs until you've unlocked the teleport.

To gather the amount you need early on, interact with Beacons and choose the "Cleanse" option. Visit the following dungeons:

  • Wayfarer's Altar. Opened via the Beacon of the same name. A basic dungeon that tests your spatial awareness;
  • Shrine of Trials. This one has more traps and dangerous enemies;
  • Ritual Grounds. Becomes available as you progress through the story;
  • Martyr's Tomb. Another Ovum waits at the end of this dungeon;
  • Hall of Illusions. Opened via the Mushroom Village Gate Beacon. It's one of the most confusing spots, but it's right after clearing it — assuming you didn't skip the earlier Beacons — that you'll have exactly 8 Ova.

Collecting 168 Ova for the Finale

To pass the point of no return — the Send Ova option at the Gloom Siphon — you'll need to gather a colossal 168 Ova. Running around small dungeons for that would take far too long. The most efficient way to rack up a mass of Ova:

  1. Clearing Corrupted Gates. There are 6 of them in the world. Closing each one grants a huge number of Ova — this is your main source of the resource for the finale;
  2. Cleansing Beacons. An additional, steady source of the resource as you explore the world.

Consumable Fruits and Mushrooms

Beyond the progression Ova, Mortal Shell 2 brings back the mushrooms familiar from the first game and adds new fruits as well.

Mushrooms and Fruit

Mango can be found as random loot from chests and bandits. It restores health quickly. The game describes this fruit as a favorite among bandits.

Tarspore and Weltcap grow all over the forested areas (for example, three Tarspores grow around the defiled statue in Mushroom Village). The mushrooms regrow over time at the same spots. The Weltcap heals, while the Tarspore deals poison damage — or grants poison immunity once you've built up enough familiarity with it.

Gorf's Secret

If you come across Gorf, the giant toad, feed him a Weltcap first. In return, he'll hand over a Marsh Pearl, which you can sell to the merchant Merrick in Marrow Keep for a tidy 2,000 coins. So, on top of healing, the Weltcap can help you earn some money in-game.

Finding fruits in Mortal Shell 2 is key both to exploring the world comfortably and to finishing the game, so it's important to keep the resources clearly separated: Ova are needed to unlock fast travel and reach the finale, and they're best earned by clearing Beacons and Corrupted Gates, whereas mushrooms and fruit are better saved for healing and extra rewards, like Gorf the toad's secret. A balanced approach to stockpiling progression Ova, together with smart use of your restorative consumables, will make your playthrough considerably easier and help you reach the ending faster.
