Silent Hill: Townfall All 5 Endings and How to Unlock Them
Silent Hill: Townfall is a first-person horror game set in Scotland. Like previous entries in the series, it features several endings, including a couple of deliberately humorous ones. In this guide, we'll explain how to unlock all five endings in the game.
What Determines the Endings in Silent Hill: Townfall
The Justice, Forever, and Abandoned endings can all be obtained on your first playthrough. Which one you get depends on the number of enemies you've killed compared with the number of Clues and Documents you've discovered. Using First Aid Kits and collecting other types of collectibles does not affect the outcome. The only difference between these three endings is the game's final cutscene.
The Dog and Sci-fi endings are joke endings and can only be unlocked during a repeat playthrough. The Dog ending replaces the cutscene shown before the credits, while the Sci-fi ending lets you finish the game early, before fighting the final boss.
Abandoned — Bad Ending
To get this ending, your number of enemy kills needs to be higher than your total number of discovered Clues and Documents. The easiest approach is to kill enemies as you encounter them and avoid going out of your way for optional discoveries. We recommend saving this ending for a later playthrough, once you already know where to go and what to do and are not planning to spend time hunting collectibles.
Forever — Neutral Ending
To get this ending, the number of discovered Documents and Clues needs to be slightly higher than your enemy kill count. If you don't want to track the numbers manually, focus on exploration and collectibles while avoiding unnecessary combat. It's a good idea to make a backup save near the end of Chapter 10 and another one in Chapter 15. If the two values are already close, the later save gives you some room to adjust the result by collecting a few remaining Documents or avoiding extra kills before the finale.
Justice — Good Ending
For this ending, the number of discovered Clues and Documents needs to be noticeably higher than your enemy kill count. Avoid combat whenever possible and try to sneak around monsters instead. Even during the final boss fight, you do not necessarily need to stop and deal with regular enemies. There are a few sections where shooting enemies is unavoidable, such as Clara Woods, but if you thoroughly search for collectibles throughout the game, you are very likely to get this ending.
Tip: you can use the Flare Gun to stun larger enemies and distract the others.
Dog — First Joke Ending
First, complete Silent Hill: Townfall's story, then start New Game+. You need to find three coins:
Bronze Coin. In Chapter 1, you'll reach Shorefront District — South. Visit the Video Star store, enter the back room, and pick up the coin from the shelf. You then need to place it into the Guide Dogs for the Blind collection bank near the Pharmacy.
Silver Coin. In Chapter 9, once you reach Clara Woods, head up the street to the first intersection and turn right. You'll arrive in the same backyard where a Strange Postcard could be found during the first playthrough. The second coin is sitting on a shelf there.
In Chapter 10, you'll obtain the Bolt Cutters. Use them to open the door behind the Post Office building and enter the Laundromat. Inside is another dog-shaped collection bank where you need to deposit the Silver Coin.
Gold Coin. In Chapter 15, the protagonist reaches an altered version of the police station. As part of the story, you'll need to unlock a door using a control panel. Use the same panel to unlock Room 793 as well. The final coin is inside. Later, after dropping the container and reaching a junction, continue straight ahead until you find another dog-shaped collection bank. Place the Gold Coin inside.
After that, all you need to do is defeat the final boss and watch the unusual ending.
Sci-fi — Second Joke Ending
As with the previous ending, you first need to complete the entire game and then start New Game+. This time, you need to find three specific books and one access card:
First Strange Book. In Chapter 3, you'll reach Zoe's House. Enter the bedroom and look for the book History of Space Flight, 1952-1992 underneath the bedside table to the left of the bed.
Strange Access Card. In Chapter 6, after accepting Richard's Gift, enter the hotel and head upstairs. You'll find a door with a symbol keypad. To open it, enter the following sequence: Bird, Tree, Planet, Bird, Triangle, Satellite, Satellite, Fish, Rocket, Planet, Dog, Column. If you make a mistake, you'll have to enter the entire sequence again. The item you need is behind the door, next to the elephant statue.
Second Strange Book. In Chapter 10, after speaking with Richard, enter the store in the southwestern part of Atlas Square. The book Freeze Me / Wake Me is on a shelf to the left of the entrance.
Third Strange Book. In Chapter 15, you'll reach an altered version of the police station. When you use the control panel to unlock rooms, open Room 621 as well. Inside, next to a container, you'll find A Map of Nowhere Else: The Future of Interstellar Travel.
Continue through the story until you reach the red corridors. Before the door that triggers the IV drip sequence, you'll find a card reader on the left. Use the Strange Access Card on it and continue forward to unlock the secret ending.
Which Trophies and Achievements Are Tied to Each Ending
There is a separate trophy or achievement for each ending:
- Justice — For St. Amelia.
- Forever — Here To Stay.
- Abandoned — Just Making Things Worse.
- Dog — Let's Talk This Out.
- Sci-fi — Sci-fi-lent Hill.
You do not need to complete the game five times to unlock every achievement. With carefully placed manual saves, all five endings can be obtained across two playthroughs. During New Game+, collect the items required for both joke endings at the same time. Unlock one ending, reload a save from before it triggers, then complete the requirements for the other.
