It was recently reported that the horse who played Roach in Netflix's The Witcher series has passed away. In reality, the horse was named Hector, and he was 12 years old. Interestingly, Friesian horses, like Hector, typically live much longer, around 25-30 years.
Hector appeared in the second and third seasons of the series, where Geralt was portrayed by Henry Cavill. In the first season, Roach was played by a horse named Zeus. The news of Hector's death was shared by Laca Juhasz from Team Juhasz, though the cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
In 2019, Henry Cavill mentioned on social media that he had grown very attached to Hector and "genuinely loved" him.
It's worth noting that Hector also appeared in the series Shadow and Bone, where he played the horse of the Grisha army's general, the Darkling.
As a reminder, the fourth season of The Witcher is set to premiere this year, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt. Additionally, it was recently revealed that a character from CD Projekt RED's games will appear in the series.
