Generative AI is not used to create characters in the Avatar films. In particular, such an approach is prohibited on the set of the new part of the franchise — Fire and Ashes. This was stated by director James Cameron in an interview with CBS.
Much of what the audience sees in Cameron's films was filmed on a special stage in Los Angeles.
«We had to build an ocean," director James Cameron said. "We could make a two-meter swell. We could make a wave crash up on a shoreline if we built the shoreline».
A similar approach was taken to filming underwater scenes — the actors had to work in a tank with a volume of about 1.1 million liters.
The director uses motion capture techniques to create fantastic characters. For this, the actor is filmed in close-up on several cameras at the same time.
At the same time, speaking about artificial intelligence when creating characters, Cameron adheres to a tough position.
«It's like, no. That's horrifying to me. That's the opposite. That's exactly what we're not doing».
Cameron's new film Avatar: Fire and Ashes will be released soon. Earlier, the director admitted that he would abandon the franchise and leave to write books if the picture does not raise enough money.
