Hideo Kojima has shared his plans for the coming years and explained how his relationship with his own work is changing. After finishing Physint, he intends to move on to a new game, continue working within the film industry, and explore technologies that, according to him, may become standard for the entire entertainment field within a few years.

One of the major directions remains the Death Stranding film adaptation, which is being produced by A24. The director and screenwriter is Michael Sarnoski, known for Pig. Kojima has chosen to take the position of an observer and not interfere with the filmmaking process.

I’m taking a step back and just watching. The A24 team and Sarnoski know what they’re doing. They need freedom, and I want to give them the opportunity to tell their own story within our universe.

In parallel, another Death Stranding–related film is being discussed, as well as an anime adaptation. Details remain undisclosed, but Kojima confirms the projects are in active preparation.

At the same time, the developer emphasizes that cinema is not a temporary experiment for him. He is considering creating an original film or even a new IP that would evolve simultaneously in both film and games. Kojima is also convinced that the next five years will be pivotal for the entertainment industry: AR technologies will blur the boundary between the screen and reality.

In five years, it will be normal for entertainment to extend beyond a phone screen. It will be the norm. And I want to be ready for that moment, to create new things when the very environment changes.

Despite his studio’s 10-year anniversary and several massive projects, Kojima does not consider taking a “break” or living a quiet life. He admits he has sometimes imagined releasing a mega-hit, earning a fortune, and visiting the office once a year — but quickly realized that such a life isn’t for him.

Sometimes I think: what if I make something that sells better than anything else, and then just live peacefully? But I’m not that kind of person. If I sit at home watching Blu-rays, I won’t last. I need to work. I need ideas and people to discuss them with. If I stop, I stop existing as who I am.

After Physint, the creator plans to start a new project, though no details have been revealed. But he emphasizes that his desire to create is still strong — and as long as that remains true, he will continue pushing the boundaries of the industry. Earlier, he revealed a little more about the game and even admitted that he could “make it with his eyes closed.”
