Karl Urban admitted that the role of Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2 was the most difficult in his career
New footage from the upcoming movie Mortal Kombat 2 has appeared online. On them, you can see Johnny Cage performed by the star of The Boys Karl Urban. The actor said that the role in the adaptation of the legendary game was the most difficult in his entire career.
The role of Scorpio will be played by Hiroyuki Sanada, and Kano's thug will be Josh Lawson. But perhaps most of all, viewers are waiting for the appearance of Karl Urban in the role of Johnny Cage.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Urban shared that he wasn't too tired on the set of the next season of The Boys, so he asked his manager if there were any more action movies on the horizon. About a week later, the actor was sent the script for Mortal Kombat 2. Filming the sequel proved to be a real challenge.
«It was the most challenging role that I've ever undertaken in my career. It's the martial arts. The form and the style of martial arts is so specific, and the choreography, at times, is so definitive in its movement, and there's a precision of execution for it to look good. It was a huge challenge».
Urban shared that to prepare for the role, he went to karate tournaments and watched young fighters to understand what Johnny Cage was like as a child.
Liu Kang will appear in the film as Ludi Lin, Jessica McNamee will play Sonya Blade, and Mehcad Brooks will play Jax.
Martin Ford will play Shao Kahn in the new film.
The premiere of Mortal Kombat 2 is expected on May 8, 2026. The duration will be 116 minutes.
Let's remind, recently there was another photo from the shooting, in which Kuan Chi was noticed. The role of this character is played by Damon Herriman.
