“I Couldn’t Tear Myself Away”: Hideo Kojima Is Thrilled With Jackie Chan’s New Film
Game designer Hideo Kojima has shared an enthusiastic reaction to The Shadow’s Edge, a new film starring Jackie Chan. He posted his impressions on X, calling the movie one of the most striking cinematic experiences of the end of the year.
According to Kojima, the film grips the viewer from the very first minutes and doesn’t let go until the final credits. He specifically praised the action, pacing, and visual direction, as well as the performances of actors from different generations.
I watched The Shadow’s Edge this morning — and it was insane. I couldn’t tear myself away. From the first frame to the last, it’s a feast: action, espionage, rhythm, tension, drama, spectacular set pieces, and of course Jackie Chan — all in one film. The contrasts are fantastic: analog versus digital, AI versus a human pursuit team, youth versus seasoned veterans from different generations.
Kojima also singled out the key confrontation between Jackie Chan’s character and Tony Leung Ka-fai, calling it “stunning,” and praised Zhang Zifeng for her role as He Qiuguo. In the end, Kojima admitted that watching the film late in the year genuinely made him happy, and emphasized that it deserves a wide audience:
I strongly recommend this film. Missing it would be a real loss. Honestly, it deserves to be a big hit.
The Shadow’s Edge follows a daring heist carried out by bypassing a modern surveillance system. To crack the case, the police turn to detective Huang Dezhong, who left the force many years ago. The film first premiered in early August, with a wider international release arriving at the end of October.
The movie has already drawn attention not only from audiences but also from prominent figures in the games industry — and judging by Kojima’s reaction, it may become one of the most talked-about action films of the season.
