Filming Begins on How to Train Your Dragon 2 Live-Action Movie

Production has officially kicked off for the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon 2, with its premiere slated for June 11, 2027. Mason Thames is set to reprise his role as Hiccup.

The movie’s plot will be based on the 2014 animated film of the same name. This time, the main characters will face Drago, whose goal is to take control of all dragons. Drago will be played by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. Cate Blanchett has also joined the cast.

The first How to Train Your Dragon live-action film was released in 2025 and received mostly positive feedback from viewers. With a budget of $150 million, it grossed $636.4 million at the box office.

Dean DeBlois returns as the director for the sequel, as well as serving as the screenwriter and executive producer.
