‘The Batman Part II’ Screenwriter Shares Two Notebooks Filled With Material for a ‘Game of Thrones’ Spin-Off

Mattson Tomlin, the screenwriter of The Batman Part II, has shared photos on Twitter showing two filled notebooks containing material for a Game of Thrones spin-off titled Aegon’s Conquest. The project has been in development for around two years, with Tomlin working closely alongside George R. R. Martin on the script.

The series will depict events set 100 years before House of the Dragon and 200 years before the original Game of Thrones. The story centers on King Aegon I Targaryen, who conquered six of the seven kingdoms of Westeros (with Dorne remaining independent), united them under Targaryen rule, and forged the Iron Throne. Aegon foresaw a prophecy about the “end of the world of men” brought on by a long winter from the North — one that could only be stopped by a Targaryen on the throne. This legend later became known as A Song of Ice and Fire.

According to the latest information, HBO and Warner Bros. are considering releasing Aegon’s Conquest either as a television series or as a large-scale feature film comparable in scope to Dune. The project has not yet received an official series order, but Tomlin’s active work on the script suggests significant progress. The third season of House of the Dragon is set to premiere later this year, while the spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently airing on HBO. Notably, the fourth episode is expected to air ahead of schedule to avoid competing with the Super Bowl for viewership.
