Each generation has its own hero: Zack Snyder revealed who the best Batman on the big screen is
Director of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” Zack Snyder stated that he considers Ben Affleck the best Bruce Wayne in film history. He said this on the Happy Sad Confused podcast while recalling how he was searching for an actor to play the Dark Knight opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman.
According to Snyder, the decision was made in a rather unusual way.
I made a drawing — I took Ben’s face and drew a mask on it. It sounds stupid, but I literally took a marker and drew the cowl over a photocopy of his face. And at that moment I convinced myself that this was it.
However, for the director it wasn’t only about appearance. He is convinced that Affleck became the most convincing portrayal of billionaire Bruce Wayne.
He’s the most obvious Bruce Wayne of all the Batmen. Of anybody who’s played Batman, Ben is the best Bruce Wayne. He’s a really big guy. In boots he’s 6 foot 5. He has the physique that I always wanted for my Batman. I wanted him to be a fighter. I wanted him to look like he could actually hurt you.
At the moment, the current Batman remains Robert Pattinson, who will return to the role in “The Batman Part II,” scheduled for release on October 1, 2027.
Snyder’s Batman remains a subject of debate among DC fans — some consider Affleck’s version the most powerful and “comic-accurate,” while others still prefer Christian Bale or Michael Keaton. It is still too early to judge the new Batman.
