Dunk & Egg Return: New Cast Revealed for Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

HBO has officially announced the key cast members for the second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s Dunk & Egg novellas. Production on the new episodes is already underway in Belfast and Spain.

Season two will be based on The Sworn Sword, the second story from the Tales of Dunk and Egg collection. The story picks up several years after the events of season one, taking the heroes to the Reach, where a drought has escalated tensions between two powerful houses.

Lucy Boynton will play Lady Rohanne Webber, also known as the “Red Widow.” Her character finds herself at the center of a land dispute with her neighbor, Ser Eustace Osgrey. Locals believe Rohanne is a witch who has outlived four husbands, but beneath the rumors lies a young ruler with sharp political instincts and ambiguous motives. Boynton is known for her roles in Barbie and Murder on the Orient Express.

Ser Eustace Osgrey will be portrayed by Peter Mullan. His character is a veteran of the First Blackfyre Rebellion and a fallen knight struggling to maintain what little influence he has left. Dunk, the hedge knight, swears fealty to him. Mullan is known for his work in Westworld, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

Babou Ceesay also joins the cast as Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield, a wandering knight and ally to Dunk. Ceesay is recognized for his role in the series Alien: Earth.

Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell will reprise their lead roles. Season two will focus on a localized conflict in the Reach, where a prolonged drought turns a water dispute into a major standoff, reflecting the lingering consequences of civil war in Westeros.

The showrunner is Ira Parker, who noted that casting Peter Mullan was a pivotal decision for the new season.

There’s no premiere date yet for season two. For context, the season one finale drew record viewership and pushed the series into the top ranks on HBO Max. Meanwhile, a full-length Game of Thrones movie is also in the works.
