James Cameron Says Avatar 4 is Very Likely Despite Fire and Ash Box Office
Even though Avatar: Fire and Ash hasn't quite matched the phenomenal box office run of its predecessor, James Cameron remains optimistic about the franchise's future, stating that a fourth film is still very much on the cards.
Variety previously reported that the third installment has yet to break even, despite pulling in a massive $1.45 billion worldwide. However, speaking at the Saturn Awards on March 9, the director reassured fans that a sequel is very likely. Cameron emphasized that he is closely monitoring audience feedback to determine the franchise's next steps.
Fire and Ash follows Jake Sully and his family as they navigate the loss of their son, Neteyam. Amidst their grief, the heroes face off against the aggressive Ash People, led by the vengeful Varang, played by Oona Chaplin.
“Here's the thing: the movie industry is depressed right now. Avatar 3 cost a lot of money. We have to do well in order to continue. We have to do well, and we need to figure out how to make Avatar movies more inexpensively in order to continue,” Cameron told Taiwan’s TVBS News.
