A brand-new teaser for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has just dropped, confirming Jim Carrey’s return as Dr. Robotnik. The news comes straight from the latest trailer, which also reveals that James Marsden will reprise his role as well.

The teaser opens with Amy Rose’s hammer smashing through a surface, revealing the Chaos Emeralds. Over the scene, we hear Robotnik’s voice — once again brought to life by Carrey — warning of an impending threat and the “beginning of chaos.” Inside the emeralds, flashes of key franchise characters appear.

Among them are Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Shadow, and Amy Rose, who will be voiced by Kristen Bell. The teaser also confirms the arrival of Metal Sonic, who was already hinted at in the previous film’s finale.

The cast also includes Ben Kingsley, Nick Offerman, Richard Ayoade, and Matt Berry, though their roles remain a secret for now.

Jim Carrey’s return is especially noteworthy given his previous statements about possibly retiring from acting. He had said he’d only come back for a “special script,” but ultimately chose to return as Robotnik in the earlier films. His involvement in the fourth installment is once again a major event for fans.

The movie is set to premiere on March 19, 2027, and the Sonic cinematic universe is set to expand further — a spin-off is already in development and could be released as soon as 2028.

Do you think Jim Carrey’s comeback as Robotnik and the introduction of new characters (including Metal Sonic and Amy Rose) could make Sonic the Hedgehog 4 the most spectacular entry in the franchise — or has the series already hit its peak?
