"I Wasn't Joking, and You Have No Choice": Eric Kripke on How He Pushed Through The Boys' Finale Despite Amazon

The Boys creator Eric Kripke told SFX Magazine how he convinced Amazon to end the series at five seasons — or rather, how he left them no choice.

I kept telling Amazon: "It's going to be five seasons." They let me finish the fourth — and it ends with the world exploding. Some senior executives asked: "Do you really want to end at five seasons?" I replied: "I wasn't joking. And, with respect, you have no choice."

The logic is ironclad: after Homelander takes over the US and declares martial law, returning to the status quo is no longer possible. Kripke noted that Amazon ultimately agreed — and let the team finish the story on their own terms. Actress Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight, has already warned that the finale will be "ambiguous" — not triumphant, but rather emotional. "The emotional weight caught me off guard," she admitted.
