“I’m too old” — Antony Starr on playing Wesker in the Resident Evil adaptation
The star of The Boys, Antony Starr, has been named for months as one of the top fan picks to play Albert Wesker in future Resident Evil adaptations. The actor himself is taking the hype in stride: in a recent interview, he admitted that he does not fully understand “what all the fuss is about” and believes the role should probably go to someone younger.
When asked by a journalist whether he had ever considered appearing in a Resident Evil adaptation, Starr replied: “I don’t even know what that is, man. I’m an actor from New Zealand, and if someone offers you a job, you say, ‘Yes,’ because there aren’t that many offers in New Zealand.”
The actor acknowledged that he has received plenty of requests from fans to play Wesker. At the same time, he believes the only reason people want to see him in the role is Homelander’s blond hair.
People keep bringing it up. The only thing I have in common with him is the blond hair, which, as you can see, I’ve gotten rid of. I think they need someone younger. I’m old — I’m 50.
Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil reboot, which is set to release in September 2026, will not feature any characters from the video games. The director said that while the film will “fit within the lore,” it will tell a completely new story: “I’m not going to tell Leon’s story, because Leon’s story has already been told in the games. Fans already know it.”
