“Steal as many props as you can” — Tom Felton wrote a letter to the actor playing Draco in HBO’s series

Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the original Harry Potter films, has revealed that he got in touch with Lox Pratt, who landed the role in HBO’s new series. According to the actor, he does not think it is right to teach his young colleague how to approach the part, so he simply left “his phone number and address” in case Pratt or his parents ever want to reach out.
In an interview for Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Felton confirmed that, like his former co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, he had sent a message to the next generation of Harry Potter actors. The actor made it clear that he does not intend to impose his own interpretation of the role or tell Pratt how Malfoy should be played. On the contrary, Felton believes that the new generation should have its own story, while his role is simply to offer support and help if advice — or just a word of encouragement — is ever needed.
According to Felton, the current cast will have a much harder time than the actors from the original films. Back in the early 2000s, they were essentially launching a brand-new franchise from scratch, whereas today the young cast is under immense pressure from fan expectations. That is why the only advice he gave Pratt and the other actors was to enjoy the experience.
