From hero to dictator: The Boys creators show Homelander’s evolution ahead of the finale
On the eve of the final season premiere of The Boys, Prime Video released a three-minute video dedicated to Homelander. The clip is built from key scenes across all four seasons and structured as the character’s internal monologue — from his early days as a public idol carefully hiding his true nature to his current position as the de facto dictator of America, who no longer needs to pretend.
In the monologue, Homelander reflects on his trauma and loneliness: he has been betrayed by allies, former partners, and even his own son. At the same time, he remains dependent on the love and approval of the crowd — and it is precisely this vulnerability that makes him especially dangerous. In order to gain strength, he abandons the last remnants of his humanity and focuses on his own greatness and sense of superiority. Showrunner Eric Kripke has long described Homelander as someone who “just wants to be loved” — and the final season promises to push this tragic logic to its limit.
In season five, Homelander has reached absolute power: Hughie, Milkman, and Frenchie are imprisoned in “Freedom Camp,” while a puppet president carries out his will. Antony Starr, according to critics who have already seen the first episodes, delivers the best performance of the entire series. The final season premieres on Prime Video on April 8 with two episodes, with the finale set for May 20.
Do you think Homelander deserves redemption — or can his story only end one way? Share your thoughts in the comments.
