Get over here! New Mortal Kombat 2 trailer drops — premieres May 8
Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Mortal Kombat II. This time, the story centers on the long-awaited tournament: Earthrealm’s champions, led by Johnny Cage, are forced to fight both each other and invading forces as the looming threat of Shao Kahn’s dark rule hangs over the world. And yes — there’s plenty of blood and fatalities in the footage.
Karl Urban takes on the lead role as Johnny Cage, portrayed here as a reluctant hero dragged into the tournament by Raiden and Sonya Blade. Familiar faces return from the first film: Scorpion, Sub-Zero — now reborn as Noob Saibot — and Cole Young. Among the newcomers are Kitana, played by Adeline Rudolph, and Jade, portrayed by Tati Gabrielle. Director Simon McQuoid, who helmed the first movie, returns with a noticeably bigger and more ambitious production.
Producers have already said that test screenings went extremely well — with audiences reportedly jumping out of their seats, comparing the experience to Avengers: Endgame. It’s also been revealed that a third film is already in development, suggesting Warner Bros. is aiming to build a long-running franchise.
Mortal Kombat II hits theaters on May 8, 2026, including IMAX. The first film, released in 2021, grossed around $84 million on a $55 million budget — and the sequel is clearly aiming higher.
