Ralph Fiennes, the actor who brought Voldemort to life in the Harry Potter film series, has shared his thoughts on the future of the Dark Lord in HBO’s upcoming TV adaptation — and even named his own favorite for the role.

Fiennes revealed that a few years ago, he was approached about possibly returning as Voldemort, but since then, the project has moved forward without his involvement. While he said he wouldn’t have minded reprising the role, Fiennes now feels that the opportunity has passed and “that train has left the station.”

When it comes to a potential replacement, Fiennes pointed to Tilda Swinton as a “fantastic” choice. The actress, known for her roles in Constantine, Doctor Strange, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, has already been mentioned in fan discussions as a possible Voldemort thanks to her unique appearance and impressive range. However, casting Swinton could mean some changes to canon details, including the character’s original name, Tom Marvolo Riddle.

HBO has yet to officially announce who will play Voldemort. Company head Casey Bloys previously stated that no decision has been made, and Cillian Murphy, whose name has been widely discussed online, has already denied any involvement in the project.

The new series will be a full adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s book saga. The first season has already wrapped filming and is set to premiere on December 25. We previously published an in-depth article about the series, covering the cast, Rowling’s involvement, and more.

Interestingly, there have also been rumors online that Paul Bettany could be in the running for Voldemort.

Who do you think would be the best fit to play Voldemort in the new series?
