Top Gun 3 Officially Announced: Tom Cruise Set to Return as Maverick
During its presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Paramount officially announced that Top Gun 3 is in development, with Tom Cruise confirmed to reprise his iconic role for the third installment.
Rumors of a sequel first surfaced back in 2024. Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote the previous film alongside Eric Warren Singer and Christopher McQuarrie, is currently working on the script.
The franchise's previous entry, Top Gun: Maverick, was a massive box-office sensation, grossing $1.5 billion worldwide against a $170 million budget. Its success was particularly notable as it revitalized the theatrical experience following the COVID-19 pandemic. Cruise returned to the role of ace pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell 36 years after the original film's release. In the sequel, Maverick returns to the elite flight school to train a new generation of pilots for a high-stakes, life-threatening mission. The story also explored his complex relationship with Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, the son of his late friend Nick "Goose" Bradshaw. In addition to Cruise, Maverick featured a standout cast including Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Monica Barbaro.
In other news from Paramount, the studio recently unveiled the release date and logo for the upcoming Call of Duty movie. Additionally, a new trailer for the live-action Street Fighter adaptation has debuted, showcasing the iconic fighters from the legendary franchise.
