Warner Bros. and DC have released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming film Clayface, directed by James Thomas Watkins, best known for his work in the thriller and horror genres (Eden Lake and The Woman in Black). The premiere will take place on October 23.

The teaser, featuring the tagline “Look fear in the face,” confirms that DC Studios is making its first full-fledged foray into the horror-thriller genre with Clayface.

The lead role—an actor tragically transformed into one of DC’s most iconic villains—is played by Tom Rhys Harries. The cast also includes Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, David Dencik, Nancy Carroll, and Joshua James.

The story follows the dark descent of a once-promising Hollywood actor who slowly becomes a monster consumed by vengeance. The film explores themes of lost identity and humanity, the destructive power of love, and the dark side of scientific ambition.

The screenplay was written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, based on DC characters. Among the producers are Matt Reeves, James Gunn, and Peter Safran, highlighting the film’s importance to the newly reimagined DC cinematic universe.

The production team features cinematographer Rob Hardy, production designer James Price, editor Jon Harris, VFX supervisor Angus Bickerton, and other key talents. Warner Bros. Pictures is handling distribution.

All in all, Clayface is positioned as one of the darkest and most experimental projects of DC’s new wave, focusing on psychological horror and transforming a classic villain into a tragic figure.

What do you think about DC Studios taking Clayface in a horror-thriller direction—is this a bold and successful experiment for the DC universe, or too much of a departure from the classic superhero style?
