While fans are busy discussing the teaser for the latest official Resident Evil adaptation, the team behind the YouTube channel Residence of Evil has announced a project of their own: Original Sin: Prelude to Biohazard.

Set to coincide with the franchise's 30th anniversary, the project is described as a non-profit feature-length film made "by fans, for fans." Directed by Brandon Salisbury—known for his work on the documentary George A. Romero's Resident Evil—the movie will serve as a prequel to the infamous Spencer Mansion incident.

The plot is based on the novella Biohazard: The Beginning and the book Original Sin: Prelude to Biohazard. The story follows Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine as they respond to a distress signal, only to find themselves ensnared in a deep-rooted conspiracy. Our heroes will have to investigate mysterious disappearances, gruesome crimes, and terrifying creatures lurking within the Arklay Mountains.

The filmmakers aim to capture the aesthetic of 70s and 80s horror, prioritizing practical effects and classic cinematography over CGI. Funding for the project will be raised via Indiegogo. Like the team’s previous work, the film will be available to stream for free on the Residence of Evil YouTube channel.

While the exact launch date for the crowdfunding campaign has yet to be revealed, the creators have already shared the official teaser poster.
