Netflix's Gears of War Movie Will Explore the Origins of Delta Squad
Netflix's upcoming live-action adaptation of Gears of War will focus on the origins of Delta Squad, following the legendary infantry team as they battle for survival against the Locust — a subterranean race intent on eradicating humanity.
The film will delve into the desperate struggle of Delta Squad, exploring the camaraderie and bonds forged among soldiers thrust into a brutal war. David Leitch, director of Bullet Train and The Fall Guy, will helm and produce the project, with Jon Spaihts — screenwriter for both Dune films — penning the script. Although the main focus is set, the filmmakers have not yet revealed which timeline the movie will follow. The adaptation could retell the events of the first game, introduce a new narrative, or present an alternate take on key moments from the series.
Xbox executive Matt Booty, Xbox's executive vice president and chief content officer, emphasized that the story's heart lies in the brotherhood and teamwork among squad members.
Alongside the live-action film, Netflix has also announced an adult animated series based on Gears of War, aiming to expand the universe for both longtime fans and newcomers.
As a reminder, the first gameplay for Gears of War: E-Day was recently revealed.
