Robert Eggers' Werwulf Gets First Trailer — Watch the New Horror Film from the Director of The Witch, The Lighthouse, and Nosferatu

Focus Features has released the first trailer for Werwulf, the upcoming horror film from acclaimed director Robert Eggers, best known for The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman, and the recent Nosferatu.

Judging by the footage, Eggers is once again diving into the dark world of historical folklore and supernatural terror. Set in 13th-century England, the film follows the residents of a fog-shrouded countryside as they become haunted by a mysterious creature. As fear spreads, local myths and superstitions begin to take on a terrifying reality.

The filmmakers describe Werwulf as Eggers' most visceral and unsettling work to date. The story explores themes of religious devotion, damnation, fear of the unknown, and the darker side of human nature.

The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson. Eggers co-wrote the screenplay with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón, with whom he previously collaborated on The Northman.

Following the success of Nosferatu, the project is already being considered one of the most anticipated horror movies of 2026. Based on the trailer, audiences can expect another atmospheric journey into a world of ancient fears, folklore, and bleak Gothic horror — elements that have become hallmarks of Eggers' filmmaking.

Werwulf is scheduled to hit theaters on December 25, 2026.
