The official digital version of The Backrooms has leaked online just two days before its scheduled release. The film surfaced on various piracy platforms on July 12, ahead of its official launch.
The Backrooms is an American science-fiction horror film from A24. It adapts the well-known internet creepypasta about an enclosed space and marks the feature debut of 20-year-old director Kane Parsons, also known as Kane Pixels.
The film has already had a strong run: it became a box-office hit and drew 90% positive reviews from audiences and critics. Its worldwide box office also passed $360 million, while the budget was just $10 million.
That gap helps explain why the early digital leak is drawing attention now. A film that has already become a commercial success and landed well with viewers and critics rarely reaches pirate resources before its planned release window closes.
