Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey Shatters 2026 Records With $17.6 Million in Previews

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey shattered records right out of the gate, raking in a massive $17.6 million in Thursday night previews to score the biggest preview night of 2026 so far.

The impressive haul allowed The Odyssey to narrowly edge out the year's previous record-holder, Toy Story 5, which pulled in $17.5 million in previews. According to Variety, the film is currently tracking for a huge $90 million to $100 million domestic opening weekend. If those projections hold, it will mark Nolan’s biggest domestic launch since The Dark Knight Rises.

Universal and Syncopy have a lot riding on the epic, which carries a hefty $250 million production budget alongside an additional $125 million marketing push. Fortunately, critical reception is heavily working in its favor. The Odyssey has debuted to rave reviews, holding a stellar 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 89 out of 100 on Metacritic.

The film boasts a star-studded ensemble cast, including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland, with stunning visuals captured by cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema.
