The Call of Duty Movie Will Be Set in the Modern Warfare Universe

Paramount Pictures' upcoming Call of Duty feature film, slated for a 2028 release, will be based on the Modern Warfare subseries. The project's creators officially confirmed the news.
Plot details had been kept tightly under wraps since the movie's announcement in September 2025. However, during Saturday's Call of Duty in Culture panel at Fanatics Fest in New York, director and co-writer Peter Berg took the stage to announce to fans that the film will indeed take place within the Modern Warfare universe.
Since the original game's debut in 2003, the Call of Duty franchise has expanded into dozens of mainline titles and spin-offs. The Modern Warfare games primarily focused on the Middle East, following Captain John Price and his squad on a high-stakes mission to eliminate terrorist Vladimir Makarov.
Last month, Paramount Pictures set a June 30, 2028, release date for the currently untitled CoD movie, which is being produced in collaboration with Activision.
Previously, Activision unveiled the Kill Block mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
