The Odyssey Box Office Results for Opening Weekend Revealed

Opening weekend box office numbers for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey have shattered initial expectations. The film pulled in a massive $264.1 million globally during its debut weekend, with $124.5 million coming from North America alone.

As previously reported, the movie has already broken multiple box office records. It secured the biggest domestic opening weekend of 2026, marked the highest-grossing debut of Matt Damon's career, and delivered the most successful opening weekend ever for an R-rated Universal Pictures release. Additionally, it now ranks fourth all-time for domestic opening weekend earnings among R-rated films.

On the international stage, The Odyssey brought in $139.6 million, setting a new record for Christopher Nolan's highest overseas opening weekend. This performance also represents the second-biggest international debut for an R-rated title, trailing only the blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Odyssey claimed the biggest studio debut in Universal history across 11 different territories and achieved Nolan's career-best opening weekend in 48 markets. IMAX screenings accounted for a significant chunk of the earnings, generating $51.8 million globally, including $29.6 million from North American theaters.

Meanwhile, Moana took second place at the domestic box office, pulling in $19 million after experiencing a 56% drop in its second week. The remaining films on the charts performed largely in line with expectations. The biggest decline hit the horror flick Evil Dead Burn, which plummeted 64% to bring in just $5 million over its second weekend.
