The Legend of Zelda's Link Actor Says He Missed Breath of the Wild at Launch
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who plays Link in the live-action The Legend of Zelda film, said he did not play the game Breath of the Wild when it launched because he was too young and did not have a Switch. said he instead watched other people play it and followed playthroughs when the 2017 release came out.
At the time, Ainsworth was born in 2008, which means he was about eight years old when Breath of the Wild arrived. He said he did not have Nintendo's console yet, so the game entered his life through other players rather than his own save file.
I remember being quite young at the time when it came out, and so I didn't have a Switch at the time. And so, I was watching gamers play it, and watching playthroughs, essentially.
Ainsworth also said preparing for the role pushed him to look back across the series' history. He described going back through 40 years of legacy, different tones, stories, versions, and vocal performances tied to the character.
The actor added that filming in New Zealand was an awesome experience and called the country a wonderful place. The live-action The Legend of Zelda film is scheduled to arrive on May 7, 2027, and Bo Bragason is set to play Zelda, with Wes Ball directing.
Recently, Hasbro unveiled its first series of figures based on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Does Ainsworth's late introduction to Breath of the Wild make his Link casting more intriguing?
