Sony is already thinking about the next Spider-Man movie after Brand New Day's record-breaking success
Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal has hinted that, following the success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sony is already thinking about the next installment, even though full-scale development hasn't begun yet.
In an interview with Deadline, Pascal revealed that the team never maps out the franchise years in advance. Instead, they focus on finishing the current movie before figuring out what comes next.
"From the very beginning, we've never planned the next thing. I remember after the first Spider-Man movie came out, Sam Raimi said to me, 'I don't have anything else to say,' and I said, 'I just don't believe you.' I think that's good about making these movies is that they have to stand on their own... it makes the movie singular in a very different way."
Pascal also confirmed that director Destin Daniel Cretton has not officially signed on for the next Spider-Man movie yet, but Sony would like to work with him again.
"There's no writers room. If we have our way, he certainly will be."
She also confirmed that Sony's partnership with Marvel continues to operate on a picture-by-picture basis, rather than under a long-term multi-film agreement.
Earlier, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was reported to have set a new opening weekend record, earning $360 million in its debut and surpassing Avengers: Endgame's domestic opening weekend.
