James Cameron Says He May Make Another Film Before Avatar 4

James Cameron, who is still plotting the end of his directing career, says he may slip another project between the next Avatar 4 films rather than go straight back to the franchise.

The director said he does not consider the Avatar story finished, even as he continues to map out what he called the "last act" of his career. He added that he does not know whether that phase will last one year or 20 years.

I'm still in the process of mapping out the last act of my career. And I don't know if that last act will last a year or 20 years.

Cameron said he is thinking about which other stories he wants to tell and which project would do the most good. He also said he may work on another project between the franchise films.

The next two Avatar films are still scheduled for 2029 and 2031, but Cameron's comments leave room for a different project in between. He has also mentioned work outside the Avatar universe, including an adaptation of Ghosts of Hiroshima.

That means the future of the franchise is still mapped out, but not necessarily in a straight line. Would you rather see Cameron return to Avatar first, or take on a new film before 2029?
