Movies and TV Series Reviews June 7, 2026, 04:00 PMIt looks like the spoof movie genre is experiencing a genuine revival right before our eyes. Back in the 2000s, films parodying entire corners of the movie industry seemed to arrive one after another — Tropic Thunder, Hot Fuzz, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, and many more. Then came a long quiet period, when making fun of silly things stopped feeling fresh, while poking fun at serious subjects became increasingly risky.

Movies and TV Series Reviews May 31, 2026, 04:01 PMIn the Grey is a new crime film by Guy Ritchie starring Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead roles. It's a somewhat old-fashioned heist movie that stands out from similar pictures thanks to an unusual concept and the director's signature style. But does this approach still hold up in 2026? That's exactly what we explore in this article.

Movies and TV Series May 30, 2026, 08:00 PMThe series The Boys received a reputation as one of the industry's biggest events right from the start. Ruthless violence, mockery of mainstream superhero media, and frightening realism became a breath of fresh air for viewers. The project quickly built up a loyal fanbase, including many people who had never even read the original comics. Eric Kripke, the creator of another major hit, Supernatural, who took the helm of the new show, once again seemed to have struck gold. That lasted for three seasons, and then something happened. The fourth season came dangerously close to the phrase "a dog’s dream", while the fifth and final season unexpectedly repeated the fate of Stranger Things or, more precisely, turned out far worse. Before release, the creators actively mocked the controversial ending of Netflix’s flagship series and openly hinted that they would never make the same mistake. Let’s break down just how badly we were all deceived.

Movies and TV Series Reviews May 24, 2026, 04:18 PMThe word Hokum translates to cheap trick or contrived nonsense. To name his big-budget Hollywood debut this way after the fantastic Astral. Medium (Oddity)—is either a level of self-irony beyond belief on the part of director Damian McCarthy, or a very subtle joke at the expense of horror fans. Either way, under the wing of the NEON film company, the movie made it to the big screen and earned an excellent 89% on Rotten Tomatoes despite its relatively short runtime of 101 minutes—and those are the 100 minutes that will literally have you clinging to your seat. It’s a unique, if not perfect, product that works as an effective mechanism for building tension.

Movies and TV Series Reviews May 23, 2026, 10:33 PMIn April of last year, Netflix released a new anime with the resounding title Devil May Cry. As you might guess, it’s an adaptation of the game series of the same name, helmed by the somewhat niche but well-known Adi Shankar. The man made a name for himself with another game adaptation, Castlevania, so he certainly knows a thing or two about brooding men with big swords. Naturally, the first season sparked a storm of criticism. As usual, fans didn’t like anything at all. But that’s a familiar story. I, the author of this text, reviewed the first season and, on the contrary, really liked it. The creators managed to capture the core of Devil May Cry—the crazy, over-the-top essence of the project. A year later, it’s time for the second season. Unfortunately, this conversation will be less pleasant.

Movies and TV Series Reviews May 18, 2026, 07:06 PMDisney+ is reviving the dark Marvel superhero universe that previously delighted viewers on Netflix. The first solo project belonged to Daredevil, and a year later the Punisher returned. Unfortunately, not for long. Frank Castle, the most conflicted and brutal antihero in the TV universe, set out on a final mission that spans a single special episode. The title, The Punisher: One Last Kill, seems to suggest a farewell to the character, but it looks like this is far from the end.

Movies and TV Series Reviews May 17, 2026, 09:31 PMThe first season of Daredevil: Born Again turned out to be much better than anyone could have expected. Disney managed to preserve the story’s dark tone, the familiar character designs, and the signature atmosphere. That said, it wasn’t without its hiccups. Initially, this soft reboot was supposed to consist of more than ten episodes. In the end, they abandoned that plan, splitting the runtime into two seasons. Essentially, we have one big story with a logical beginning and end, divided into two unequal parts. This naturally led to the first season dragging on for far too long and failing to offer viewers any particularly memorable moments. The second, however, promised to bring all the resolutions together. Seasons aren’t usually split up like this. Let’s discuss the second season of Daredevil: Reborn and figure out if it’s worth watching, even if the first one didn’t impress.

Movies and TV Series Reviews May 15, 2026, 10:26 PMMany fans of the Godzilla films missed the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The thing is, the creators of the MonsterVerse decided to expand their universe not through monsters, but through people. Films about Godzilla and King Kong have traditionally lacked dramatic depth, so the idea isn’t bad overall. However, not everyone was pleased with the execution. We at VGTimes didn’t cover the first season, so now I’ll share my overall impressions of the two seasons of this project. Is it worth spending time on Apple’s new series? What are its strengths and weaknesses? Find out more in this review.

Movies and TV Series Reviews May 8, 2026, 09:36 PMAntoine Fuqua’s new biopic Michael (2026) hadn’t even hit the screens before it defied expectations: critics tore the film to shreds (38/100 on Metacritic), while the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes hovers around 96%. Review of the animated series Stranger Things: Tales from '85. A nice treat for fans of the original who are feeling nostalgic
Movies and TV Series Reviews May 6, 2026, 01:33 PMThe animated spin-off of Stranger Things was announced back in 2022, but a lot has happened since then. The final season of the main series turned out to be highly controversial, but by that point the animated series was practically finished, and it was too late to change anything. As a result, Stranger Things: Tales from '85 found itself in a very difficult position, caught between the reactions to the original ending and viewers whose interest had sharply declined. I’ll discuss below how the new show turned out and whether it’s worth your time, even if the battle with the Vecna didn’t quite land. -
Movies and TV Series April 26, 2026, 11:57 PM«Lee Cronin's The Mummy» is a horror film that shattered audience expectations. Not a reboot, not a sequel — a fundamentally different kind of movie. Where there used to be action-adventure, there's now domestic nightmare. Where there was exotic spectacle — there's home invasion horror. The film deliberately terrifies you with something that should have been a miracle: a missing child came back. Alive. Here's what the director of Evil Dead Rise pulled off.

Movies and TV Series April 10, 2026, 09:27 PMThe Super Mario franchise needs no introduction. Over 40 years, the Italian plumber from Brooklyn has become one of the most recognizable figures in pop culture and Nintendo's flagship showcase. To mark the franchise's anniversary, the Big N rolled out The Super Mario Galaxy Movie — the second feature film and a direct sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed over a billion dollars. Three years in development, a hefty budget, and a cosmic setting — is that enough for the next step? We caught The Super Mario Galaxy Movie in IMAX 3D and are here to break down what came of it.

Movies and TV Series Reviews March 27, 2026, 09:43 PMThe second season of One Piece on Netflix was released three years after the громкий success of the first and once again drew the attention of viewers and critics. The live-action adaptation of the popular anime became an unexpected hit in 2023, proving that such projects can actually work. However, things are less straightforward with the sequel: the ratings remain high, but the audience hype has noticeably declined. I approached Season 2 with optimism, but ended up with rather mixed impressions. And I think I understand why.

Movies and TV Series Reviews March 24, 2026, 07:21 PMIn March, the sci-fi film Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, was released. Journalists had already been buzzing about the film in early March, calling it a "masterpiece" and a "new sci-fi classic" — and even critics don't throw around such lofty titles. Furthermore, the public's interest in the new film can be easily explained by the fact that it is the second adaptation of novels by American science fiction writer Andy Weir. The first adaptation, Ridley Scott's The Martian, was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture, and, of course, earned a place in our list of the best space movies.

Movies and TV Series Reviews March 16, 2026, 05:50 PMDetective Sherlock Holmes is almost as popular in the media space as superheroes. This is one of those rare cases when all the books and stories were written long ago, yet adaptations keep appearing anyway. At the same time, many of these versions of the character truly stand out and bring something completely new to the familiar image. However, if you think about it, when modern viewers hear the name Sherlock Holmes, they will most likely think of the interpretations by Benedict Cumberbatch, Vasily Livanov, perhaps Jeremy Brett, and of course Robert Downey Jr. It just so happened that the other versions, even the good ones, didn’t really stay in the public consciousness. Which makes it all the more interesting that the director of the films with Downey Jr. — Guy Ritchie — decided to return to the character and started working on a completely new project about the youth of the iconic detective. Today we’ll talk about the series Young Sherlock and discuss whether this adaptation will manage to stay in people’s minds.

Project Hail Mary has a 96% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Ryan Gosling film is being called “a new sci-fi classic”
Movies and TV Series March 11, 2026, 08:39 PMProject Hail Mary is a large-scale sci-fi film about a schoolteacher who goes into space to save humanity. Critics are pleased with it, especially praising the humor, atmosphere, and Gosling. -
Movies and TV Series March 5, 2026, 08:15 PMAfter the controversial finale of Game of Thrones, the newly minted franchise suddenly had nowhere to go. Video games based on the universe failed to take off, and the sequel got stuck in development hell. New content abruptly ran out. But not so fast, because savvy producers remembered that George R. R. Martin has an entire encyclopedia about the life of the Seven Kingdoms before the events of the books. That’s how the series House of the Dragon was born — less grand in scale, but with actual living dragons. The project has already received three seasons, but there’s a catch — it will have to wrap up with the fourth. And it’s fortunate that Martin is busy with anything except writing his flagship series. For example, short stories about the hedge knight Duncan the Tall, who travels across the Kingdoms in the period between the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. Recently, another series saw the light of day — A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is based on the very first of those stories. The creators are happily planning to stretch the runtime to as many as 16 seasons. And the audience doesn’t mind. Believe it or not, this project is one of the best fantasy shows not only of 2026, but in general. Let me explain why.

Movies and TV Series March 4, 2026, 05:50 PMThirty years ago, Wes Craven knocked on horror's door and asked, "What's your favorite scary movie?" The genre answered — and slashers were never the same. Now Scream itself has become that call: you pick up and you're not sure whether you're in for a warm nostalgia trip or a slow, painful death by familiarity. By the seventh installment, this isn't just a movie about running from a guy in a mask. It's a film about what happens when tragedy becomes a tourist attraction — and when a killer starts using AI as a weapon. We caught the premiere and we're ready to deliver a verdict.

Movies and TV Series February 10, 2026, 04:49 PMIn recent years, a surprising number of high-quality video game adaptations have been released. Today, they are no longer considered low-budget films, as they were in the 2000s, when director Uwe Boll was actively involved. For example, Fallout has been adapted into a high-quality, high-budget series that even those unfamiliar with the original games might enjoy. Read our article to learn about the second season's launch.
