Game of Thrones Creator Uncertain If The Winds of Winter Will Ever Be Completed

George R.R. Martin began writing The Winds of Winter 13 years ago, when the world of Game of Thrones was still fresh for fans. Since then, HBO has finished the series and moved on to developing multiple spin-offs, yet readers are still eagerly awaiting updates from the author. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Martin admitted that The Winds of Winter might never make it to store shelves.

Unfortunately, I am 13 years late. Every time I say that, I’m [like], ‘How could I be 13 years late?’ I don’t know, it happens a day at a time.

But that’s still a priority. A lot of people are already writing obituaries for me. [They’re saying] ‘Oh, he’ll never be finished.’ Maybe they’re right. I don’t know. I’m alive right now! I seem pretty vital!

It’s worth noting that The Winds of Winter is the penultimate installment in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. The final book, A Dream of Spring, is expected to be released after Martin finishes a new novella about Dunk and Egg.
