First Details Revealed for Elden Ring: Nightreign—A Co-op Game Featuring a Boss from Dark Souls 3

This morning, FromSoftware unveiled Elden Ring: Nightreign, a new entry in the Elden Ring universe. The game will offer co-op gameplay and battles against familiar bosses, including the Nameless King from Dark Souls 3. A journalist from PC Gamer has already tested the game and shared what fans can expect.

  • Nightreign is a cooperative game with 30–40 minute sessions. Players explore a modified version of Limgrave, where enemy placements and locations are procedurally generated;
  • Each session lasts three in-game days (10–15 minutes per day). During the day, players explore the map, and at night, they face a boss. The match culminates in a battle against one of eight final bosses, chosen at the start of the session;
  • The game features a shrinking danger zone similar to the battle royale genre;
  • Co-op supports up to three players, and the game offers eight distinct classes instead of a character creator;
  • While it retains much of Elden Ring’s feel, Nightreign introduces faster movement speeds and eliminates fall damage. Due to the time constraints, players will be constantly scouring the map for loot and experience;
  • Items will have rarity levels, akin to Diablo;
  • The project is led by Junya Ishigami, who worked on the combat system in Elden Ring;
  • Ishigami clarified that Nightreign is not a live-service game—there are no plans for seasons or battle passes.

The game will be sold at a price comparable to the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Players will have the opportunity to try Nightreign in an open beta before its release.

Elden Ring: Nightreign is slated for release in 2025.
